ehy Ed,

with pleasure. The place is Called Mello valley or Val di Mello.
it is a little climbing pearl threatened by the modern climbing view called "plaisir" and introduced by the swiss....with the series of books Plaisir Switzerland.

the local are day by day working hard to remove any additional fixed gear appearing from time to time anyhow ;-)

the rock is great
the ambience is wonderful

Nice....might be worth a plane ticket! Plaisir eh.....yeah folks have been exporting that idea all over the place. The Alps and the Dolomites are bristling with in situ gear and the infection has spread to "YIKES" Patagonia.

I have very fond memories of the Val di Mello. Our very first trip to Italy we flew into Milano and spent our first night in Italy in the charming town of Sondrio.

Had the honor climbing there about 10 years ago. Absolutely fantastic setting with climbing in classic / trad style. If you want to do some alpine - just move up 1 day to the hut servicing the back side / south side of the famous Bergell / Bergalia area.
If you are not into bolt clipping every 6 ft - this is the place to go!!!

folks have been exporting that idea all over the place but so far what i see are the effect on areas as Masino-Bregaglia on the border between Switzerland and Italy...
Swiss alpine guide added bolted belays on classical routes like the Cassin on the pizzo Badile, the north ridge of the same mnt. and the Cengalo south ridge...
this, the guides say is to bring their customer up there in security....

can i say i do not give a sh#t about their customer?
or am i too rough?
I have no respect for somebody that sell and buy "adventure" out there
some ascents should be done, some other should be dreamed and we should train for...other i can only dream about...
but that`s how i grew into it

anyhow any new bolt in the valley`s old routes will be chipped
