Gym Climber's Guide to Patagonia
Thursday January 28, 2016 9:14am
...well, not as useful as an actual guide, but a friend from the gym asked me if I could write a report for the Planet Granite blog. While in Chalten, I took so many photos, that I didn't even want to deal with organizing them for a year. It would take at least a full day of work. Finally, I had a reason to get it done. Better now than never, right?

If anyone wants to check it out...

Here is my original NOT edited post. It has A LOT more photos:

Looking at the steak at the moment makes me want to puke. After climbing St. Exupery and hiking out, I followed it up with a few scoops of ice cream

Hard to take a bad shot. I'd have to take more photos of the ground and my face, if I want to do that...for the next trip I will get a wide lens for sure. And bring the bigger camera along more often.
Yeah, hope to go back next year. It is difficult to find a solid partner who would be into harder things with an unknown outcome.

I'm worried about the exposure you're giving this area

Sorry, posting this was dumb. If the masses didn't see the area mentioned in the Alpinist, Rock&Ice and the Climbing, they WILL see it in my blog! Everyone knows that is like the most popular thing out there. LMAO :)

When I followed your link to the first blog, I was surprised to see how much Patagonia resembled the Palisades.

Seriously, though, the pictures you posted are wonderful, and makes me sad that it's unlikely I'll ever get there to climb. For that reason, I all the more appreciate your sharing this with us.

John, the first photo you see when opening my blog is my cover photo, which is a shot of the Palisades! :) Or are you talking about the actual Fitz Roy Massif? They do not look alike, to me, as the Palisades are made out of dark alpine semi-solid rock and the peaks in the Fitz Roy Massif are made out of usually fairly solid granite. Not the Sierra Nevada....but it is alright. ;)

Don't lose your hopes, did you see the new feature for the Alps? The Google street view in the mountains, as I was told. You may be able to climb something out there from the comfort of your home, soon, maybe!

FYI, I am not sponsored by anyone. Never asked for equipment or got any gear from any manufacturer. I cover all my gear by what I get paid at work.

That red MH tent looks pretty, but I sold it after the trip. Earlier, it was completely useless during a rain-storm. Maybe it is supposed to ONLY be used when it is cold, but I did not like the quality at all. Some leaking is okay I guess, but it was not even something I'd call water-resistant. Had to continuously use our pot to get the water out of the tent. If we were not 15 miles in, would be a funny situation. And yes, I did have it seam sealed.
