Fantastic Snow Beasts and Where to Find Them
Wednesday March 13, 2019 12:56pm
Betsy and I ended up in a surreal and fantastical area on a backcountry ski trip last weekend. The past few weeks have featured relatively warm storms with strong winds, apparently perfect conditions for rime ice on the Sierra Crest where we were (off Hwy 50).

Righteous photos, Mr. Grant, thanks for sharing. What an amazing winter it has been out there (here in NM too, actually).

Just to cap this thread off, I ended up flying over Pyramid Peak not far from the snow beasts. I've never seen it like this, COMPLETELY covered in ice. For those that know Pyramid, check this out. Amazing.

I also put in a photo I found taken in the summer.

So cool Ney. Pure curiosity, I wonder if that rime on pyramid would support a climber and/or if there’s a bunch of blue ice in there. Looks pretty solid! Nuts
