I say delete MORE THREADS!!!!!

Most threads are stupid asss sh#t anyway that should be left bouncing around in your vapid skull and not unleashed on the masses.

All the BS keeps the quality threads like "Top ten threadkillers, and a claim to the title" from getting the eyes it deserves.

Dr. F could delete the first post, and so title, of his public service thread any time. It would still be there in all its glory, sans first post and title, for anyone who had the URL and wanted to look at it or even add to it.

I suspect for many of us, SuperTopo is the only forum we follow or post to, in part because of the variety of topics, including climbing, and in part because we like to talk with climbers. There are undoubtedly many other forums around, but none with the same attributes.

I just checked several threads I started some time ago. One, with 450 posts, was started in September 2008. The "edit" button is still visible on the first post, which means I could change or delete that post (and that post only) any time I want. The ten day rule doesn't seem to apply - although I wasn't tempted to actually edit let alone delete to prove the hypothesis.

Not having deleted any of the threads I've started - all of which of course contain timeless pearls of wisdom, not to be so hazarded - I can't say whether or not a thread, once deleted, can then be added to. I guess zip can give it a try with this one, or indeed create an experimental thread just for that purpose.

hey there say, .... after seeing the various thread-titles running amok here, as to stopping and starting, etc, .....hmmm, i am a mite late to figureing-out what is going on here... now, i think i got it:

SO THEN--it's a good thing i seen THESE all together, in a lump-sum:

1--it solved the mystery and now i know what's going-on, well, in one case...
(delete or not to delete, the on-going battle)...

2--and, kind of, in another case... (proper etiquette? as a poster)

3--and---last but not least, i think i got this too:
folks are still vying for the thread-killer thread, and who will be the winner of the title....

hmmm, well, i THINK that is what i just read here, just a bit back, in THIS very thread... ;)

Dog Doo,

I think you have me confused with someone else. Someone who might give a f*#k what you think about them and their posts.

I don't know who you are, or really care, but I would have to guess that we have never climbed together.

"What was my point?" There wasn't one. Self amusement.

For the most part, i feel i post stuff that someone might benefit from, or get a laugh out of.

I generally try to not post stuff that is offensive, and when called on it, i re evaluate, and if i feel i was wrong, will usually delete.

From what you just posted, it sounds like you feel that some of your posts are a lot like masturbation. At first, it seemed like a good idea, but in the end, you realized that you are only f*#king yourself.

At the present time, i have no desire to go to war with you, or anyone else. I have already served my country, and am retired.

Sell crazy somewhere else. I'm all stocked up here.

Zip, I really doubt you are a "climber".

You may climb on occasion, but I really don't think it's a "lifestyle" for you like it is for many of us. Maybe if you actually posted a trip report occasionally, rather that just the drivel you seem to leak, you wouldn't get slammed so much.

Don't flatter yourself - your posts aren't that entertaining, but trolling is easy here, n'est-ce pas?

MisterE,

I appreciate your candor.

I would be more than happy to respond to your inquiry, if you could please give me an in depth explanation to your statements.

What exactly, is your definition of a "climber"?

What "lifestyle" are you referring to?

Where in the "rules" section of this site does it say that you have to post a TR in order to participate?

My posts aren't entertaining? They make me laugh.

I have heard the term "trolling" before, but not really sure what it is. Can you please explain?

I eagerly await, what i am sure will be a very informative reply.

I don't threaten people, Blair, as I am not a violent man. Just looking out for your best interest, giving advice. Perhaps you should reread the sentence.

But there are people who are prone to violence when insulted. And some of these people even frequent SoCal climbing areas. Thus, the advice.

Shouldn't you be out taking a lap on Bearded Cabbage, Zippy? It is the weekend after all.

Actually Zip, after thinking about it, you got nothing to worry about at all. Because you're one of those types that would stand around talking sh#t to someone's face, and when they then rightly pounded your face in, would be on the phone to your lawyers and the cops within 3, 4 seconds tops. So relax, have a homebrew, I think you're safe.

Elheadupinyoazz,

When i first read your rebuttal, and you used my name, i thought that maybe i knew you.

I can't remember every partner that i have had over the last 38 years, but i know for a fact that you don't know me. Your comments clearly illustrate that.

For starters i don't get in people's faces and talk sh#t.

Secondly, i am allergic to alcohol. About once a year, i try an alcoholic beverage to see if my allergy has gone away, but i would have to say that i am a non drinker.

I have reread your sentence, and i do feel that it is a threat.

You say that you are not a violent man, but you then you talk about someone rightly pounding my face in?

"prone to violence when insulted"? Who's insulting who here? Reread the thread. Please tell me where i started insulting anybody. I have only defended myself, after being attacked by others.

I hate violence, and this is stupid, but i am not going to let you or others kick me in the dick, and not defend myself.

I am not a violent man either, but it comes with the job.

I have had my teeth knocked out though, but it was as a solder, in service of my country, not over sh#t talking on the Internet.

You are way wrong about what would happen in the 3-4 seconds after i had been attacked.

If i felt that this was truly a life threatening situation, and that one or more individuals were trying to seriously injure or kill me, i would defend myself to the death.

Take a deep breath.

You have the freedom to post as you wish.

Some people dont like it and they can post as they wish.

I see this kind of hostility when people arent getting out enough.

You would think that if it rubbed someone the wrong way , that they would just stay away . I myself do not have the control to stay away from the crap and some of the emotional immature stuff that is posted here just gets me going. t*r is a fine example and i am happy when she deletes her crap. Deleting threads that contain potentially useful information, even if the thread doesn't go where it was intended, is a bummer.

Deleting threads that are completely, stooopidly OT, and full of personal banter and nothing else is just fine by me. Better yet, don't post them in the first place.
