Due to the new format on the taco, and the subsequent relegating of trip reports to 'their own cage', and my getting a new computer and the true delirium that it takes to nuke your old computer and put it to bed I can only at this time offer a tidabit.....

who is this MAN...

Don't listen to crazy Old Timers, Tim, unless their last name is either Braun, Gingery, Bridwell, Stark, or Walling....

That's how I roll. (Bwahhaha, Russ is gonna be pissed in the OT category, but whatever).

Nice Teton shots...Middle in the background. Looks like the Complete Exum on the Grand. Is that the Black Face pitch?

Hahahaha!! Unless there are two of them, that benchmark is at the top of the Mouth. Two of my climbing partners worked at the USGS at the time and thought it would be a hoot to put one in on a climb. So we climbed the route (aluminum beer can lid bolt hangers...) and in it went. There was a 3/4 inch drill involved and a three pound sledgehammer. The stud is in 6 inches deep and cemented with the USGS special sauce. I am not mentioning names here to avoid any fallout. I have heard many reports of people getting freaked out by it. It was just for fun.

Edit: I noticed a faint "Grand Teton" marking on the benchmark, so it is not the same as the one on the Mouth. If anyone has a picture of that one, I would love to see it!

Michael,

Here's the benchmark at the Mouth, along with one of your climbing partners from that trip!

We replaced a couple of those aluminum hangers (in May), and Roger fixed the rest of them this summer.
belay/rappel anchor at the Mouth
JWS = initials of your other climbing partner

original 1/4" Star Dryvin protection bolt with flattened hanger (p2 or p3, depending on how you count)
