Had a great evening at Damon Robbins’ new establishment in Modesto. It's at the old Mountain Paraphernalia/Robbins Mountain Shop building at Tenth and Needham. I’ll add more tomorrow, but, by all means stop by if you are either in or passing through Modesto. I wish Damon all success in this venture. The place and people are very cool.

More manana,
Gene

The Café has several things of interest to the ST tribe. One wall has five very large Glen Denny prints, two of which are of Warren Harding. The one print of RR is the post Tis-sa-ack shot. There is a stack of Ascent magazines to peruse. And Liz and Royal playing cribbage at the next table, at least when Jud and I were there.

Damon’s has wines from around the world. The wine list has over 60 items. Some are available by the glass; some by the bottle only. That is the extent of my wine knowledge. No, he does not serve Red Mountain.

On to my area of expertise. He has good beers. Beer purists will be pleased to know that PBR is available and served in the can. Arrogant Bastard, Stella Artois, a range of Sierra Nevada offerings, and a few others round out the brews. No beers on tap – I hope that changes as the business grows. No Old E or Cobra, kids.

The service was excellent. We had Melanie, our server, select our charcuterie for us since we were clueless. She picked well. The charcuterie and gherkins were great. Damon came by to say hello and introduced us to his father who chatted with us awhile.

If I had to pick one word to describe the Camp 4 Wine Café, the word would be comfortable and relaxed. OK, that’s two. Visit your next time through or in Modesto. I thoroughly enjoyed my evening there.

Wish I was local but I'll definatly check it out next time through, wish the guy all the luck in making it a success, looks awesome. Thanks for the heads up and the link.

Looks cool and I will check it out. But I did not see a wine List?? Maybe he should carry wines by wine makers who climb.

The facebook site has been much more active (and therefore updated) than the other... I don't have it's direct address at my disposal right now, but I believe it was linked in the To Be Brave thread. I heard Gene visited last night... look forward to the report! I finally get to see the "Cafe" in a few days... packing now to head towards the Sierras. Which is always such a fun thing to pack for :)

No doubt there's some shorter URL, or I could use tinyURL, but too busy.

Winemakers who climb?

Sounds like a bad idea if they squeeze the grapes traditionally,..

But the Camp 4 Wine Cafe sounds like a natural haunt for Batso's spirit.

Just saying.

(Wouldn't have wanted Charlie Fowler's smelly dogs stomping the grapes for MY wine.)

I couldn't find their wine list. The menu had some good things. I would check it out if I were in town.

From Highway 99, take the Kansas Avenue exit east. Taking the sharp right and overcrossing about 1/4 mile from the freeway leads to Needham Avenue. The Cafe is at the corner of Needham and Tenth Street.

It's half way between YV and the Bay Area.

Hey everyone who's passing Modesto enroute to the Facelift, stop in and check it out. I ate there a few weeks ago while visiting the family, and was quite impressed and thoroughly satisfied! It's a nice place to stop off for a glass of wine or beer and some fresh appetizers. Enjoy!

What Tamara said.

A perfect place to take a break on your long trek to the FaceLift.

EDIT: Take a look at the first photo in Peter's post. Glen Denny's B & W photos grew color. Peter has such amazing abilities. Kind of Haanting.

Thank you all for your interest in Camp 4 wine cafe. I'm Damon, the proprietor, any and all climbers are welcome and encouraged to stop by. And as an answer to the question of will there be face lift discounts, I can say: absolutely! Any friend of climbing, of adventure, of beer, is a friend of mine. Just say the word "face lift" and you'll promptly receive a PBR (Pabst Blue Ribbon) on the house. Hope to see you soon. Happy climbing.

Tom Frost is the only one I know in there. I'll have to ask my dad about the others. That is a seriously handsome man on the far right though. Looks a lot like me...

I finally stopped in here it was great. I usually come from the North and take highway 4 out to Yosemite so I don't get down to Modesto much. But stopped by this time on way home from Fresno/Tollhouse rock.

Great paninis. Great spinach salad. Great beer. Didn't try any wine THIS time.

The classic wood Yosemite signs are cool. Especially the super bomber Toulumne meadows one.

I thought this wonderful place had closed, Fet. Thanks for pointing out it is running. Modesto is lucky; it looks like a great spot! And of course we have to wish the very best for the Robbins family. I had a smile just now in thinking that Roper was the sommelier.
