Full Trip Report: http://www.csh-east.org/blog/2009/08/red-dihedral-a-stellar-alpine-weekend/

Video #1: Approach: http://www.csh-east.org/blog/2009/08/red-dihedral-video-1-the-approach/

Video #2: The Climb: http://www.csh-east.org/blog/2009/09/red-dihedral-video-2-the-climb/

A couple of pics to pique your interest in checking out the full report (linked above). I shot a bunch of video too, which I am working on editing into something short and interesting (hah).

My partner also took loads of pics and video. I don't have it yet, but I'm sure there are a few good ones I'll add later.

Sunset on the Incredible Hulk

Me at the P1 belay

Line of ants on the crux pitch (but wait, there's more above!)

Looking up on P7

Start of P9

I have to squeeze through this? With a pack? Are you kidding?

At least the views below are good

Looks like fun!

hah, close but not quite ... Sarah is the 2nd to last climber in the photo. My partner is leading up behind her, and I'm dead last!

Initially, we were first in line, and got the bivy site above everyone else, but it was cold when we woke up so we went back to sleep... mistake! We went from a good chance at first in line, to last! Ah well, it all turned out OK. Still only took us 7:15 total to climb the route.

We all seemed to move at about the same pace after the namesake pitch, so there was very little waiting around after that.

I'll stay off on the weekend, however!

Great shots. Thanks.

Er, did you have to get up and go to work on Monday? Yikes! Talk about a hangover.

I'm pretty impressed with you Cali climbers who live in sea level metro areas who drive the endless miles and deal with the altitude to send Sierra climbs on weekends.

Jim,

It's not too bad. We drove up on Friday night and bivied on Sonora Pass (about 9,200 feet at the bivy site).

Then on Saturday, we hiked out to basecamp at about 9,500 feet.

Sunday, we scrambled up to the base of the climb, which was probably right around 10,000 feet. The top is about 11,200 as far as I know.

So it's pretty high, but not excessively so. I seem to operate pretty well at altitude (at least up to 14,400 anyway!) A little shortness of breath but no headaches or anything worse so far (knock on wood).

BTW, I've run into you twice at Indian Creek. The second time was this past April at the start of my "I quit my job and am gonna be a climbing bum" trip. We got a good picture with you at the base of Chocolate Corner, where you were slaving away for some folks that won you in an auction or something.

It was cold that day. Shortly thereafter, I was leading "The Drainpipe" (5.10+) in the snow!

Bad Climber: I didn't have to work on Monday, but Chris & Sarah did (Our friends and also the party of two ahead of us), and so did my partner! Yeah, it pays to be a climbing bum. I got to sleep in, and then spent Monday sorting through my pics from the weekend :-)

I know it's not quite right to bump my own trip report, especially when I'm already the last to reply to it, but, I just finished one (of two) videos from the climb. "The Approach". This should help out all the 'tards that get lost on the approach: "I couldn't find the log, so I had to wade across!"

Anyway, I put a link to the video at the top of my trip report. Enjoy!
