This is going to be embarassing. To the best of my knowledge my first album was Quiet Riot, Metal Health.
On the flip side, once I had a set of wheels, my buddy and I would make the trek through the Caldicott to Rasputin records. Then I loaded up on Zeppin, Yes, Beatles, Jefferson Airplane, Hendrix, Cream, Rush, etc. $10 would cover a couple albums, gas and a slab of pizza from Blondies. Good memories.

First "tape" I ever owned was Metallica - Kill em' all.
First tape I ever bought was Gwar - America must be destroyed, followed shortly by Guns N Roses Appetite for destruction.
Wow, seems to be a theme going here.

Kraftwerk - Radio-Activity was my first purchased album, after listening to it on The King Biscuit Flower Hour on WOSH(Oshkosh radio station)
2nd album was White Rabbit - Surrealistic Pillow
Other early albums I had were David Bowie's Hunky Dory and Alice Cooper School's Out.
Then came Yes and ELP
That was between 4th-6th grade for me. By 8th grade I was big on Pink Floyd, and by years end owned all but 2 or 3 of their albums.
Then my brothers started listening to Zappa, and...well, nothing compares to Zappa. Our friends HATED coming over to our house because that's all we'd play, and they wanted Foreigner and Boston.
oh....and earlier than the above, favorite 45's, which my foster brother owned:
Last Kiss
Indiana wants me, Lord I can't go back there/ I wish I had you/ To talk to-ooh-ohh

A 45 I cut out from the back of a Sugar Smacks box. Remember those promos? I think it was some forgettable single by The Archies. It actually worked on a turntable after we cleaned off the cereal,

It was either Sgt. Pepper's LHCB, or Don McLean's 'American Pie'- actually, I 'liberated' them from my Dad, and played them until they skipped and scratched so badly they were useless.

45's - Bee Gees "tragedy" and "how deep is your love and some thing by Donna Summers
Oh yes, my dad had a large collection that I shamelessly acquired. And I miss the days of cruising down there and hitting up Rasputins! Forgot all about that.
About 13 years ago, SADLY, (and I'm still super upset I did this) I sold my records, even the super rare imports, to pay a damn bill. And some of my Magic the Gathering cards, but that's another story . Just remember, heat is a luxery, music is required!

Joan Jett, 45, Crimson and Clover on the A side, can't remember the B side. I do remember slow dancing to Crimson and Clover with Christy Boak the day prior at the 5th grade dance. She said "is that a crayon in your pocket?" I think she was refering to the jumbo sized crayons.

Not jumping on the current bandwagon but the first 33 I bought was the Jackson 5's Greatest Hits (I still have it!). The first 45 was Winchester Cathedral.
My brother gave me a bunch of 33's around that time. Woodstock, Led Zep 1, Both Monkee's albums, and Rare Earth. He wouldn't give me his Allman Brothers albums. Had to start buying them when I was 11.
BTW stopped by a garage sale this weekend and the lady had a used copy of MJ's Thriller album siting out in 100 degree heat for...
wait for it...

Captain Beefhart Trout Mask Replica
$0.99 in a cut out bin. I was twelve. Listened to it once, nearly vomited.
Put it on in borebom a few year later and was blown away. Called some friends over and we listened to that record nonstop over and over for like a month, dissecting every note, every nuance, every twist and turn.
Grew a ponytail and went climbing and nothing's been the same since.

Johnny Cash -live at San Quentin - I believe it was 1970 and I was ten years old.
Bought it because I thought "A boy named SUe" was awesome. Ended liking the rest of the songs more. Still like Johnny Cash.
Looking back, it seems funny that they "bleeped" the bad word in the boy named sue. It was a different era for sure.

Okay, you made me laugh hard. First record I ever bought was a 45, The Surfaris playing Wipe Out. Couldn't remember what was on the flip side so I googled it...and just finished listening to Surfer Joe. What killed me was how much of that song's lyrics I still remembered. Brought back seventh grade like it was yesterday. Next 45 was Little Deuce Coupe, and getting a surfboard became inevitable.

The first album I ever bought – for a friend’s sister’s birthday. It just came out
First album I thought was really cool. Summer of 1967 I broke my knuckle on fourth of July and had a cast for most of summer. Golden Road was the hit song blaring out on the car radio at the swimming hole on Fancher Creek where I hung out unable to swim because of the cast.
My dad gave this album to me, and I think this began my official record collection. For such a formal and strict man, he sure knew his music. Out of the blue, he later bought me tickets to Stevie Wonder in 1972.
