Tomaz Humar has been stranded at about 24,000' on Nanga Parbat's Rupal Face since Wednesday (warm humid waether.. snowing... ). They are trying to find a powerful enough helicpoter to try and rescue him. Check out the updates plus the amazing amazing video from the helicopter that did gp up the face.

Tomaz is a friend of mine. I just learned of this as I was away caving in Kentucky. It sounds pretty dire. I'll be praying lots for him, for sure!

Is there any reasonable possibility of someone plucking him off in a helicopter? I didn't think it was possible at such a high altitude on such steep slopes. Is it true a guy landed on the summit of Everest.

Eeeeegad! knarly! Looks like a hard place to hang on.

"Every mountain has its soul. If the mountain doesn't accept you and you don't submit to her will, she will ruin you." That is the opinion of the real top-noch alpinist Tomaž Humar.

So very true ....... this is the words of a great mountaineer and climber.

Hoping it never really hits the American media. They'll just sensationalize it into the mud.

Prayers to Tomaz.............

Damn, what a cliffhanger. Those heli pilots got some major sac.

Something tells me someone's gonna step up, dangle our boy a rope and yank him outta there, sometime today.

Make it happen, people!

Jacks,
I know tomas is a bad ass. I am just saying his current situation is why I don't do the things he does. I prefer the nice temps, easy access, and sweet granite of the valley. I give him kuddos for doin what he does. Hope he makes it out of this one-

i assumed you were unaware of his accomplishment in the valley. thats all. i didn't mean to undermine. and i do understand what you mean by sticking to the valley's 'conveniences'.

Good luck to Tomaz.

I'd like to hang out with those chopper pilots though. Anyone know how to say "be safe" in Pakistani?
