All hail one mighty little beast of a car. The Subaru Justy.
EF12 engine:
1.2-litre (1189cc) 3 valves per cylinder
Bore x Stroke: 78mm x 83mm
Power: 66 bhp@5200 rpm/70 ft·lbf@3600 rpm with two barrel Hitachi carburetor and 9:1 compression ratio

Mine has on demand 4wd, which works amazingly well in the snow and on ice. 36-42 mpg.

My sister used to run this little 'getter, then she ran it dry of oil...
So I'm in the process of getting it back on the road where it belongs!
Mine is just like this one, only white. The last carbureted car sold in the UK and the US:

Ahh, no big deal my man. Once you disconnect the tranny, and all concomitant gizmos, you can one-arm the hundred pound engine out of there (more like 150). I can't, but you can.
I've got three cores (including the one in it), and I'm weighing the options of having it 1) rebuilt by a shop in chico with a one year, unlimited mileage warranty for $695,
2)buying outright a complete, good motor with a 90 day warranty for a grand delivered,
3) or a low mileage Japanese import with a 3 month, 3000 mile warranty for $695 shipped.
All have their costs and benefits, and it's a tough one for me. I can't do the rebuild right now, but would like to see one of my cores get rebuilt because I hate to see stuff go to waste, but the other options are pretty cheap...however they don't have that one year warranty...
Any ideas?

if you trust the chico folks, i'd get the rebuild.

that seems awfully cheap.

I got a feeling we are going to see a lot of modernized versions of that car in the near future.

and yeah, 7 bills for an engine is nothing.
