ok, I think there is a plan afoot for the Vedauwoo Boogaloo 09 to take place in August... what days would have been discussed?

I have a meeting I have to attend in Livermore on August 12-14 and I think that week is out for me... but I'm only one person.

What has been discussed? I'd love to drive out in 510 OW and do a bit of climbing with you all if it is at all possible.

I heard August...though I don't think the dates have been set.

If we do this again, could we actually all camp in the same area? Seems like the brother and I held down the 'official camping spot' during the midweek both years, and never really saw anyone. Which is fine, but we can do that at anytime...just sayin

I've got 4 day weeks all through Aug and will likely fly rather than drive/ride, and there are no holidays in Aug....which is a long way of saying "anytime in Aug is good with me".

Last years site. East of Reynold's Hill just before Crow Creek 3 miles from central area.
Tom,

The unofficial site last year and the year before I don’t much care fore. Not that it matters much what I care fore. but it's
too far away from the central area. (Where all the shizz is) East L.A. is the cool spot that is not a fee area ,(I think) That’s where I camp. Lots of space, Great Boulders and a few led routes right in camp. Belay from bump of your car. 1000 yards or so south of the of The Nautilus. Vedauwoo road pass where the pavement ends 1 mile (700N) turn right which is the first road you can turn right on and you are there.. Easy to find, close to everything,Out of the wind if there is such a thing at Vedauwoo.

Just saying.

Cheers. Bruce.

Ed should know, he camped there for a while with Gary and Elcapin. Ed?

It's not alot and ya, you're right. Camping in the sticks is sometimes a pain. I worry about my stuff since there are a ton of people out there in the daytime.

TK, they also allow more than one vehicle per site and several people... at least they used to.

Ed, go anytime and let us know. We'll be there on any weekend.

it rains there, purty much every day where the heat soaks the jusce out of the thunderheads, mebbe every day, by 2; but as a Desert, it rarely gets above 8-15" of precip/ year. We're not talking the front range, here. Since '76, last yr was the first time I got shut out up there when I had more than a two hr time slot.

I have been shut down most by wind, then by heat, then in the distance,, cold, then wind. Now I can add, rain to the mix.

.04"? Are we worried here? divide by 30 - that's like two rain drops per day! We did have a nice meeting under the tarp last time tho..

I'll say it again. The sub tropical jet passes by about August 20. It is real and it will rain...

As for the venue, while I like the outback, you can walk to anywhere this side of Blair, from the campground. And your stuff is relativelly secure.
True, you can't get as raucus, but that hasn't, been a problem, anyway, when I've been there ( I swear that brick of blackcats is going, in 'The fire next time.', haha) A select few campsites in the cmpgrnd have less highway noise than the original location. If there is another location within walking approach and with isolation, I'd be up for that too. Lots of roads have been closed, there since the OD corral days...

The Boogaloo will only be enhanced by the anointing of goodness by the presence of the bloot! Someone give him, and his camera, a ride! I would, if I was going that way.

Look again, Munge, if you can't handle a half inch of rain a day why even bother climbing outside.

That is not the kind of rain that is going to affect anybody's climbing except for a few minutes.

On the Day that Scuffy became Mr Smooth, we climbed in the morning and there was a late afternoon squall. When it started to let up we started walking to Fall wall, a face climb. A t Zero percent humidity, that Sherman granite dries off in the blink of an eye.
In less than an hour from the main downpour, Scuffy had onsighted Fall wall, tricky .10b face, and made it look like a sidewalk.

Don't worry about the weather. Last year was an odd scene. in 35 seasons in Vedauwoo I have never seen it rain like last year. Don't even think of letting the weather talk you out of being there.

a more detailed plan is starting to be formed...

the Bay Area Wide Crew sounds like it is getting the wagons hitched up on Saturday, August 15.

We will probably blast to Salt Lake City and rendezvous with wide denizens there, then push on out to Wyoming on Sunday August 16.

Here the plans get a little bit different, we are talking about trying out a new area Dingus McGee has been developing on Sun and Mon, arriving at Vedauwoo on Monday evening August 17.

From then we'll climb our butts off (probably literally) at Vedauwoo through the weekend, departing, I'm guessing, early Sunday August 22.

Things may change as details are revealed...

THE BAWC IS A BAND OF SPACE-TIME TRAVELING GRAVITY GAMING CELEBRANTS AT HOME IN WIDE VERTICAL FISSURES. WIDE DEFINED HERE BY THE CURRENT DIMENSIONS OF THE LOCAL SPACE-TIME NEXUS CORPORALITY.

THESE BEINGS ARE NOT CONSIDERED DANGEROUS. HOWEVER, THEY ENGAGE LOCAL BEINGS IN RITUAL PETROS-PERISTALTIC-TRANSFORMATION PPT WHICH CAN BE EXTREMELY ADDICTIVE AND RESULT IN RITUAL SELF SACRIFICE RANGING FROM MILD ABRASION TO SEVERE DEEP BODY SCARIFICATION.

THIS BAND IS HIGHLY CONVIVIAL AND CAN TRANSMIT ENTHUSIASM FOR THESE WIDE FESTIVITIES. LOCAL BEINGS THAT HAVE FALLEN OUT OF THEIR SPELL EXHIBIT DISBELIEF IN THEIR PARTICIPATION OF HEINOUS FLESH SCRAPING MUSCLE STRAINING LUNG SUCKING RITUALS.

THE BAWC IS NOT GEOGRAPHICALLY SPECIFIC. MEMBERS ARE KNOWN TO BE DISTRIBUTED THROUGHOUT THE INTERMOUNTAIN WEST INCLUDING SALT LAKE CITY MONTANA WYOMING JOSHUA TREE AND PARTS OF EUROPE. THERE ARE INDICATIONS THAT THEIR LOCAL FOLLOWING IS GROWING.

SIGNS OF PRESENCE INCLUDES THE ERECTION OF EDIFICES ALLOWING THE PRACTICE OF WIDE CLIMBING IN LOCATIONS COUNTER INDICATING THE PRACTICE. EXAMPLES OF SUCH LOCALITIES ARE REDWOOD GROVES IN THE NORTHERN CALIFORNIA COASTAL ZONES AND THE ALLUVIUM DOMINATED VALLEYS BEHIND THE COASTAL MOUNTAINS.

who exactly?

it depends, but assuming we haven't moved onto some other climbing locale, and the weather is good, the crew on East I-80 right now is: me, Jaybro, spyork, Nurse Ratchet and Mike Fredricks.

Not expecting to leave any earlier than later on the 22nd or earlier on the 23rd...

The other points of the compass will have to chime in... North? South? East?

Ah ha! I knew it!

But it wasn't a fixated pinkie that gave you aliens away, J. I noticed this at the JTree WideFest...you, Edzilla, The ScuffMeister, Spyorkie and RussOrilla. You all have the classic Alien Invaders aversion to remaining upright.

When we humans see a big rock in our path, we walk around it, climb over it, or (last resort) crawl beneath it. You aliens, on the other hand, have to go through the thing. And nine times outta ten, you have to go through it upside-down! (See a prime example of this bizarre behavior in the photo of the Scuffy One below.)

Dead-giveaway that you're not from this world, plain and simple.

Okay... It looks like I'm in. Was going to come up ont the 15-16 weekend but I'm with tarbuster and goatboy--I want to hang with the boys. Let's get a posse together. Tar', I can't climb wide stuff for sh1t either so I'll spectate, take pictures, socialize and cook. My only climbing goal is to lead something and place a BigBro in memory of Craig. Got me a colonoscopy scheduled on the 18th so I can't come up 'til the 19th. Let's coordinate. Stitch... you in?

Tuesday morning Roy and I will be at the pay campground nearby the classy 510OW up thread.

Then I’ll be back Thursday thru Sat/Sun nights, either at the pay campground or East LA or Party Land -
depending on the open space to redneck ratios.

The place is not that big, I’m sure we will be able to sniff each other out and carry on from there.

NOTICE: the aeirial ballet started practicing on the 15th and the lines will be up all this week and performances are the 22nd and 23rd. The main area will be packed.

Yes bandaloop - and the area affected would be Walt's Wall, Coke Bottle, and the Fall Wall. There will not be a parking spot within a mile of this area on the 22nd and 23rd. Plan on Reynolds Hill or the Blair area (or somewhere else) these days.

Ok, I was another dust f*#ker. Knowing that the crew was already on the stone. I hit my boulders. About five Friday or so me and my dog ( Tillie) headed for their camp and found Ed. We talked for a bit. (Played dog ball) And I said I should go fetch my car and in doing so I saw the crew on top of Hassler Hatbox. So there was just a bit of light left and they showed up at camp. And the sandbagging began. I was the first to boast, And the first to shut-up. Thank you so much. That being said It has been so very cool out here this year, the weather has been outstanding, I have no words for it. But sad things have happen, we all had big loses this year, John, Craig and others you may know or not, It’s been tuff. All I can say is God Bless them. And God Bless You All. Thanks for coming out and hope to see all of you soon.
