For ROX-
First, here's a decent ass shot for ya.
But also you can see the remnants from the C.C.C project. In addition to a ladder route, they wanted a tower at the summit!
Those metal scraps are typical of what you see on the route.
You can also get an idea about how much vertical we covered.

That was terrible. I just wanted to check in on the Tarbuster benefit thread, and I saw the magic word, BABOQUIVARI.
I was hooked, and laughed my ass off the whole time.
Now I've been sidetracked and I'll never get my work done! (about 100 emails to answer, TODAY!)
Not to mention packing and sh#t...............I'm outta here!

Babo is a great peak, and it's in a really bizarre looking area. Cool campground.
It's too bad that moron stole the register, though. What an idiot.
We were driving through "downtown" Sells at night and there was something moving on the side of the road. MJ says, "It's a cow!"
Guess you had to be there.

Rox- this was on the West side, which is on reservation land.
The ranch approach is on the east side and is now run by the Nature Conservancy, I believe.
James is the caretaker of the campground and lives in the small village of Topawa. He has a hispanic last name and is most likely of mixed Pima/Mexican heritage.
Every few months he hikes the trail and goes nutty with the machete. James gets my utmost respect and was super nice. We got his PO Box and will send him photos.
Baboquivari IS a magical place.

Only half of the peak is within the reservation. The other half is something federally handled... USFS, BLM, or whatever. Think the official line runs north south or some such.

I miss my first chick. I hooked up with her on an 8th grade field trip in Sacramento. By the end of high school things were a little weird between us, and she was passed around to everyone on the school bus. The bus driver kept warning us, but one day he stopped the bus on the side of the freeway, grabbed her, and threw her out.
I came back later and spearheaded a rescue mission to save her. The logistics were formidable given the 10 mile approach with uncertain search boundaries. We had a happy reunion, patched things up, and it was good for a while. Somewhere in the end of college, her skin stopped being so stretchy and supple. Age gets to everyone, and I can't say I treated her with the dignity and respect she deserved. That hard crumbling brittle plastic, the fading color of youth, it was more than I could stand. I think she ended up in a garbage can when her head popped off.
I tried to replace her, but it wasn't the same. The lips weren't painted as pretty, her skin wasn't as soft, her neck was more floppy.
It is hard to outlive the ones you love.
