I'm in an argumentative mood this morning...
Flight is the process by which any object achieves sustained movement either through the air (or movement beyond earth's atmosphere, in the case of spaceflight) by aerodynamically generating lift, propulsive thrust or aerostatically using buoyancy. From Wikipedia...

but I'd generalize it:
Flight is the process by which any object achieves sustained movement through a fluid by dynamically generating lift, propulsive thrust or statically using buoyancy.

in which case Penguins fly...

in my opinion, opening up the definition of flight to include space travel is totally stupid... it's done, but I suspect the motives.

and a sail boat on a broad reach?

I know, it would be called "sailing"

what do flying, sailing and swimming all have in common?

Isn't there a difference between propulsion and lift? I think of flight as including lift.

Its antarctica. Its upside down down there, which is why penguins can fly. Just look at a globe, then you will understand.

I still don't understand why they don't walk around on their heads down there.

Does the fact that you haven't seen a penguin fly really prove that penguins can't fly? I bet that in the antarctic winter, when it's really really dark, and there are no people around to watch, the sky is just full of penguins.

I don't fly(maybe I'm a penguin), so I wouldn't know.

Bad spelling is the norm around here....I've learned to just zip it, mostly.
There's the occasional misstep which really bugs me, however.

hey there, say, ed:

hmmm, i have found a bit of fun, here... :)

as to your quote:
"what do flying, sailing and swimming all have in common?"

simply put---they all end in "ing"

more complexly put (nice word, complexly)--they are:

1--all done for sport...
2--done by the rich and famouse...
3--done by the vacationers...
4--etc, etc... and on and on we go, if one so desires, :)

hey there sir loin of leisure... say, why i RECKON they could, if they wanted... that is... at the CIRCUS:

AS IN:

he flys through the air, with the greatest of ease...
that daring young penguin, on the flying trapeze...

hmmm... well, you see... one must just substitute, "man", for penquin, i reckon...

:)

its a question of dynamics, ain't it...

quite dynamic, seeing a penquin on the trapeze, i'd say...

:)

hey there all... say...

penquin commercial:

read "march of the wooden penguins" by neebeeshaabookway, from the JAKE SMITH RANCH SERIES...

*jake's penquin project, has near toppled his buddies stamina... thus---the penguins, must go... seems they mysteriously turn up in their small town... demanding: "feed me"...

all for a good cause, though... as one to be seen at the local rodeo--after the pig-chase...

will jake see his beloved project through? find out...
and see how unexpected endings, to penguin projects, can make a man's heart soar, no matter the dilema to be conquered...

note: i reckon, as sir loin of leisure said at first point:
penguins can't fly, i must concede here, that IS so...
but: "quite spiffy they march", and in quite hord, at that...

*commercial for head injury awareness books, is now over...

back to the penquins on hand, zoo... or on ice, or, at sea...
