What is the best free climb Yosemite Guide Book? The Falcon book is full of basic topos with no real route beta. Does such a book exist?

Hey Pete,

I hate to be a "SuperTopo" homer by asking the obvious...but...

Have you purcahsed any of Chris McNamara's topo packags? While these topo packs might not include the sheer number of routes that are available in other books, they certainly make up for this in terms of the quality and clarity of information. "Yosemite Ultra Classics", "The Road to the Nose" and "The Road to Astroman" contain topos for more than enough classic free routes to keep you busy for a long long time.

Yes, After owning ALL the books available,I suggest exhausting Chris' SuperTOPO's before moving onto the quantity/not quality paper versions.

Rumor is Donny Reid is almost done with his updated version. Although, Falcon press is purportedly f*#king him over on the $$. Bastards.
Supertopos are for weanies.

I use Reid (lots of climbs) and McNamara (great topos, nice intro stuff). Never stick to one; get all the beat I can. And I'm not a weany.

Supertopos give you what you need to know to curb excess misery while not diminishing the adventure. I'm anxious to see if Don is including some of this valuable data (pitch lengths, C/A, gear sizes per pitch, strategy, etc.) in his coverage of the multitudinous routes in the previous edition. Maybe then it too will be suitable for weenies.

What is for weenies is thrashing around in the bush, because the guy who did the topo can neither draw nor write a description.
With this is mind Super Topo's kick ass and are a first rate bang up job.
To be honest the only person who isn't a weenie is the initial explorer or first ascentionist.
Unless it is a real cool route. Then you are never a weenie, even if ya get guided up it...

I changed my mind, if ya get guided ya are always a weenie...

The Best guide books for yosemite are the Supertopo books!
The most complete is Don Reids book.
Remember it takes a weenie to know a weenie and to whom ever said "Supertopos are for weenies", if that is the case, you are here in the weenie web site and "we" are all freindly and dont call each other weenies, so go away!
