Hey guys,

Sender Films has produced another segment for NBC's JEEP World of Adventure Sports. This time, it's Dean Potter's free solo B.A.S.E. climb on the North Face of the Eiger.

The 3 part, 18-minute segment follows Dean Potter's evolution across the disciplines of climbing and BASE jumping and highlining, to the innovation of BASE parachute-protection -- which he employs on his stunning BASE-lining in Moab, Utah -- and then to free solo climbing. Potter puts the concept to the test on the Eiger route "Deep Blue Sea," where the 600-foot final headwall has 5.12+ crux moves.

October 11 at 2:30 EST.

The piece will feature some of the material found in our new release, THE SHARP END, but, as the 18 minute anchor segment, it goes much farther in depth, and includes a lot of footage that hasn't been seen yet.

Thanks,

Nick Rosen

I listened to Dean talk about this at Facelift and I am still struggling with the part about deploying his BASE rig during a fall.

Normally, you BASE jump facing out from the wall in a head high hard arch position because (a) you can see where the hell you are going, (b) that position helps track you out and away from the cliff and (c)chutes are packed vents forward so the "flying wing section" actually flies away from the obstacle.

If you peel off the face during a climb, everything about your body position is wrong - feet down, facing in not out, rig points towards the rock, etc.

So I'm guessing that Dean will upon peeling, immediately spin like a cat, kick into a hard tracking arch and deploy outwards - all at a 32 feet per second per second fall rate!

It's possible - but don't fall Dean until you are at least 500 feet off the deck first!
