Here is a shot of headlamps on El Capitan last night. I have been trying the method where you take several photos that are not very bright and then combining them and blending them screen, they say you get less noise this way.

You caught some Nose parties in some pretty awkward places.
There are lights at the end of the Great Roof and a few pitches above Camp 6. Bummer for them.

CF - Same results, but better control over exposure can be had with a tripod and shutter speed control setting on the camera. This method works best when there is a low full moon and there area slough of climbers on the Captain!
Good stuff though.
Yeah, this whole week has seen plenty of ascents of the great rock.

Thanks for the memories !!! Saw the lights in person at the Face Lift but not able to take pics good enough to make it a photo memory. Now you have made it happen....again thanks !
What a rare and wonderful life event to see these bits of light arrayed against the fortress rock....

What a great photo, Chris! The night of Saturday Sept 27, I had just finished leading the top of the fifth pitch of KAOS, but Kate and I ended up with separate bivis that night. So my headlamp is the one you see top right, immediately below the [barely visible] Nine O'Clock Roof in the Grey Circle. Kate's headlamp is the one two pitches below although appearing slightly to the right.
In fact, she was directly below me, and the offset effect is due to parallax. How do I know this? Because even when I was bivi'd four hundred feet above her, she STILL made me pee into a bottle!

My wife an I were just out in Yosemite for our honeymoon. It was awesome! I've been a gym climber in Michigan for quite some time, and the mountaineering school out there was my first outdoor experience. It was awesome!
We tried to get some pix of the headlamps, but to no avail. Thank you so much for this posting, we are able to share with others what we saw. I explain it as some of the stars finding their way onto the rock face.
So, we were wondering what takes place when you're up there and settling in for the night like that? We could hear shouting, was it between teams, or each other in a single group at different pitches? Is it a party atmosphere, or an exhausted, can't wait to eat and sleep feel? How many days are the average climb? Please give some feedback. Thanks!

Well, some of us are shouting at our partners cuz they're moving too slowly. Or getting shouted at. Typically around dark, there is a huge chorus of shouts, whoops and "El Cap monkey calls" that circulates around the cliff, definitely a celebratory atmosphere. On my ten- or twelve-day routes, I like to savour a good bottle of wine in the evening, or at least a few beers. But I am more of a big wall camper than a climber.
