f*#k,

Just fliped on the tube.

It's bad.

At least one car on it's side. Smoke starting, cops running.

Two dead already.

Our engine and rescue just moved into the incident. I just got done fielding questions on the phone from the BBC. Ugly incident.

Looks like the back half of the Metrolink locomotive ended being jammed into the first passenger car.

I have seen that same train go by many times. At the point of impact the train is usually going about 30-40mph.

Probally about 300 people on board.

I would love to hear one of the FD spokespersons tell those idiot reporters,

"We are to busy saving lives to keep score. Come talk to us when it's over"

Or even better,

"get out of the way as#@&%e"

hey there TGT.... sad to say... them folks should back off, you are so right... rescue work is very high-tense stuff...

no one realizes that perhaps their job, reporting, is really secondary... and honor should be given to the chore at hand... and those that must face harder things than even they are perhaps used to... (even if they have done the same kind of rescue job for years)...

Neebee and TGT, check this out.

A radio reporter said he saw an L.A. Times reporter FAKING he was an injured train passenger so he could get closer to the REAL victims.

If the L.A. Times didn't fit the bird cage perfectly (not all newspapers are the same size) I'd cancel them today.

FYI I spent all yesterday afteroon and evening covering this story. So many instances of heroism during a really tragic events. Will post more later.

LAFD and first responders did an amazing job. Will post more later.

Just have a moment and appreciate your life.

Flouride,

I just missed going to this incident by a few minutes. Our captain had a meeting so I took his place. The guy who took my place went to the incident. I was stuck at the station getting bombarded with phone calls from around the globe.

I was telling my wife this morning when i got home how I am glad i missed it. 20 years of being a LAFD FF/PM and this stuff starts to eat away at you. I could tolerate it and manage it better as a young kid on the job but now the years of stress have stared to take their toll. If people think that pulling bodies out of car wrecks and fires doesn't bother firemen they're wrong. The problem with firemen is they usually have too much pride to ask for help or counseling.

I consider myself to have dodged a bullet yesterday but in Los Angeles it is just a matter of time until the next big incident. I just have to deal with each one as they come.

Sorry for the rant.

Rant all you want.

I turned off TV coverage and decided to listen to the news on the radio after about ten minutes because I didn't want to have to see it anymore.

Yeah, Kevin, it never is said how much we appreciate the work of cops/firemen/SAR because we never see it...you guys do the dirty work.

People don't realize what you guys have to deal with 'after the accident' in your minds.

We do really appreciate the work you guys do, even if we don't get the chance to tell you personally. I really do feel the pain and struggle you guys gotta deal with.

Thanks for what you do and God bless all you guys that do what's too ugly for the rest of us.

Thanks.

hey there chaz... you know, i have never heard anything so awful as that "pretending" before, done for a news story in a life and death situation... say now, do you wonder if someone died, because of someone faking injuries, would that "faker" be liable--and then, liable for what? very sad tactics and complete self-centered concern for "a person goal" to get what one wants, in the name of news ... yet, there would be no time to keep records of who such a man was, unless the newspaper's name was remembered...

her there batrock... say, you will have one more folk praying in your corner, now... i hope and pray that your future will set firm into helping you face these piled up years... thank you careing about folks and may your honest share, somehow keep you stronger in these matters... in other words, when you need to get it out, do so... say, have a good cry if you need to, the thunderclouds do it... and the sun shines through, later...

I went into work and noticed my seismometer in Northridge recorded the train crash in
Chatsworth. One big pulse.

Some reports claim the engineer was sending text messages minutes before the crash.

From an Engineering stand point a Red Light is all that stands between disaster. With GPS and Wirless Networks trains need to be controlled the same way as aircraft.
