I'll be out in the valley early Oct to climb the Salathe. Anyone out there know if it's fixed to Heart? Condition of ropes?

Thanks

I sure hope not, as I would like to complete this route in some sort of style. I bailed off (against my will) with two other guys (wankers IMO) in 1976 from the Salathe Wall.

It was going to be my first El Cap route and I have yet to climb the Capitan (except the East Buttress, but I know that doesn't count).

No sense in asking until you actually get there. They can be taken down, damaged or replaced on any given day.

Why not just take the tram?

Ron,

The tram is out of service. I recommend hiring a helocopter to drop them off at Heart Ledge. Can't be more than a $1000 !!

You just got to go up and find out, climb the free blast and rap down the fixed ropes, then you'll know if they're good enough for yah.

I was up to the top of the first pitch of lines up to heart ledge. Rope condition was fine, I'd climb it again, and will. I believe there are still 4 lines that lead to Heart Ledge.

Good Luck

Ah - thanks for the update. I knew Erik and Bill were up on the wall, didn't know what route they were on.

Hope they like Son Of Heart better than I did - possibly my least favourite route on the Captain, in spite of Werner's opposite assessment.

It saddens me to think the Captain is turning into just another top rope cliff . I hope some one cuts theme suckers down !

Is that why it's called 'Freerider'?
