Good Question...

maybe...
but you go first.

Got any shots down along the Middle Fork?
Or by the tunnels along 70?

What about up there by the lake...

or is Bald Dome in Plumas...I can't remember.
Its kind of few and far between, but there's rock.

Lot's of cool stuff on Highway 70.. Grizzly Dome is where I did my first climb. Super fun slab and face climbing. That canyon still has potential you just have to bushwack and hike around for it. There are several drainage creeks that lead into the Feather River that have a fair amount of granite in them.
Make sure you stop by the hot springs in Twain just south of the 89-70 junction.

Bald Rock and Bald dome are in Butte county and they have great potential for more routes, but access is tough because it goes through private property.

The guys at the Moutnain Shop in Chico will have grat info.

Wes - your wish is my command.....behold these freshies , hot off the press :

This crag is located on the border of Plumas and Sierra Counties. Backdoor Salmon is just over the hill from Salmon Lake. This cool arete is passively protected - 11a.

Just left is one of several bolted delights - Dancing With the Stars,10d. This rock (meta-rhyolite) is ultra dense and dulled many a bit

Splitter cracks are rare here but this exception provides a fun little warm up.

Larry Segna on top of 7-up (5.7). Nearby loom the Sierra Buttes in Sierra County.

Gill James starts up Crimperboy (11c) another bolted *** classic

This region was one of the top gold producing areas in California - but we seek another form of GOLD!

Here's the testpiece of the crag (so far):

Day 2 - (recalcitrant little bastard) - The Kiln (12a)

This crag is south facing......north facing crags here are a whole nother story......more later*

good bouldering but ive only been once and didn't take the camera. the stuff up high on sierra buttes looks like a hell approach, but it's probably cool, too.

It seems that in every other pic there is an elbow shooting off in an odd angle, or a gaston looking thing going on... Any way around that?

Either way, its climbing and therefore is good!!!

Climb the Penstock out of Caribou for something different.

I was thinking of building some electro magnet grips to use, a switch in the handle to disengage the magnet so you could scale the pipe, but if the battery gave out half way up it could be a real bummer.

Kayakers can get down that middle fork in the spring, it is Class 5 and overnight unless you just do the upper run.
Talk of massive vertical granite cliffs do abide.
Thousands of feet if I am not full of it.

Some locals actually go doen that in inner tubes, but thats crazy. Eueraka Plumas to Bald Rock Canyon, some nice sliding falls at the end, but a 13 mile paddle out on the lake.

Heck, Mt Lassen has some stuff, eh?

Stay out of Butt Lake, or else.
Dem Browns be mine come fall.

Hey, you could scale Feather River Falls, might be a first.

OK - not technically Plumas Co, But you can drive right to saddle (rowdy 4x4)parking area for the Buttes Lookout where you will find some amazing roadside bouldering:

Yo gilly - checkout the slinger boulderin V2 in Cirque Pros

Wes - not Frenchmans Lake (but theres routes there too). Cocktails & spray anytime!

anyone climb at chimney rock along the PCT near LaPorte? Looks like a Plumas county classic to me. Also, Plumas slab and Grizzly dome don't appear to be the only clean granite along Hwy 70.

damn no sh#t i was just hiking by some of this stuff looking pretty close and wondering. i always figured people had bouldered on the volcanic stuff in the trees along the ridge on the hike to the lookout. it always looked really good for medium range stuff and i definitely scrambled on those boulders before. didnt realize there was stuff right above the tammaracks though.

heres a question to anyone that climbs up there. let me see if i can describe this. when you are looking at the buttes, from the east, bassets roadish, and theres the main buttes formation and then the smaller like volcanic side formation thingie, to the left from this vantage, that looks really clean. i always wondered if theres anything been climbed on that. of all the rock in that area it looks the best to me.

There will be many, previously unreported, crags in Plumas County revealed in the upcoming "LOCALS GUIDE to Northeat California" due out late this coming winter from CAMP 4 PRESS. Surprising how little climbing activity eastern Plumas County has seen. Only a handful of local climbers in the region, and very few paved roads, explains part of it.

More info here: http://camp4press.com/upcomingguidebooks.html

This is a cragging area I came across in Eastern Plumas County just in the last month. Hundreds of potential lines and probably only a handful, at most, have been climbed. Probably only seen a handful of climbers over the years. 20 minute approach from a paved road and the rock is good Only have found two, minor, bolted lines on a piece of rock closest to the road, (not in the photo) Nope, not revealing where it is yet. Just a sampling of the exploration potential of Plumas County. Pm me if you have ever climbed at this crag or are interested in exploring some new trad routes, would like to compare notes on anything that has been climbed yet.

Some nice bouldering potential there as well.
Edit- These boulders are 16'-18' tall. Saw a few more like it, including one that was much better, but was definately not interested in looking for boulders with unclimbed cliffs around. A nice diversion on the way to "real" climbing, but for world class bouldering check out below the Sierra Buttes and Lakes Basin.

I've always wondered what Young America Buttress is. I've scrambled all around there and never figured out which buttress it is. I have an idea but no surety on that one. Or what about the climb that climbs up the dihedral that ends at the SB lookout at a bolted anchor?

not actually sure if this counts as plumas county rock being that this is just outside plumas, but i figure this is the place for it.
these are boulders in the trees along the ridge, about a mile before the fire lookout at the very top of the buttes. perfect landings for the most part, decent rock and a good location.
