LEB - It was ripped because it was political and this is a climbing forum.

Yes to the question "Should threads be deleted?"

They should be pulled early, and pulled often.. To prevent a fully matted forum. I know that it was the style not too long ago, but it's over now.... And almost no part of the 70's should be brought back.

Start with these 3968 posts.

When you are done with those, you can work on these 216.

The original 5550+ posts have already been deleted.

Bob, for ten days after the OP, the OPoster has the ability to delete the OP. However, the thread(minus the OP) is still accessible by forum search.

LEB, if you spoke how you post how long do you think you would last around the average campfire before you were ostracized? Just an average. Id give you about 2-3 evenings MAX with any given group before you knew you just weren't welcome. The internet is beautiful that way though isnt it? It makes a lot of what is not possible, comfortable, or even feasible, quite .... regular.

Until there is a sufficient number of indexed keys with
coherent analysis explaining direct accessing and the
otherwise, and also explaining and proving the technical
reason to not delete them, editing and deletion should be
allowed.

If we don't make people wear new threads, then before you know it they'll be wearing polyester, or worse still bell bottoms and tie dyed shirts. It would be fashion anarchy around here - if we're all on the team, we need to get with the program and wear the uniform. Yeah, sure, they'll all say it's retro and cool and stuff, but as far as I'm concerned, it's time to drive a stake through the heart of disco. Starting with deleting its threads.

WOW!!!

Flashlight - Tell us how you really feel!! LOL Obviously got something agains SS/t*r!

I think that if the topic has to do with politics, then it has a place, here, on the forum.... I just don't think that they need to be discussed, and if they are discussed, for gosh darn golly gee sakes... Can anyone find a solution? Because we are human and have our own agendas, we may never reach the critical mass needed to make a change for the better that these threads should be aiming to accomplish.

But then again.. (Though I have not looked) I'm sure there are plenty of places/forums that are connected with the politcal arenas of your/our local/state/federal governments that these discussions can take place on to exact some kind of change.

So that we may get back to more pressing matters.........

Letter to the LA Times-------------9/3/08

Unplanned Presidency

According to all independent reports Senator McCain made his VP announcement one day after starting the process to vet his candidate. The issue here rises entirely above political considerations, above the qualities of the candidate, and surely above all considerations of what followed.

If a President does not, before hand, carefully think through his actions and all the possible results and problems that may result, all of us - no matter our politics, will pay a huge cost. Indeed national security itself can be put at risk, entirely unnecessarily.

All that has ensued is very regrettable, but it may yet have positive result. Each of us need only ask ourselves if we think it is Senator McCain’s habit to act in this manner. There is yet time for us to answer this very critical question.

John Stannard

For the title of the letter I shamelessly stole Master Bomez's sound byte. Purloined? Does that sound better?

LEB, In your asserting the presumed motivation for deleting you are taking someone else's inventory in an effort to malign them. Pretty childish.

Perhaps deleting a thread upsets you because someone took their ball away from you.

Delete all non climbing related threads. It got out of hand really, this was about climbing once upon a time. Now its very polical masterabatory. For those whom are understandably commited to a political forum start your own web site with a forum. The owners of this site have been clear do your rants elsewhere, just let me know where that is.

lolz, if you wanna see more climbing-related threads, then start one that peeps are gonna wanna post to -- otherwise stfu.

that being said, there is a monsterous load of white noise screwing up the signal these days. fewer gumbs that don't climb stepping in where they don't belong would sure help.

Emphatically concur with Russ and even more so with flashlight. It is annoying that a virtual non-climber would clutter the forum with mostly useless stuff. Who the hell cares if she used to fat or knott? [she'll go back, all fat chicks do]

So does that "bug" still exist, whereby if someone starts a new thread, but later deletes his original starting post, the whole thread is nuked? I thought that was de-bugged. Webmaster please advise. Or do we even have a webmaster?

hey there.. say, leb/lois, not sure if this will help as to thoughts on the issue:
it seems like communication is like a stream, or a river... sometimes there are rapids and sometimes there is smooth-flowing... and sometimes one current is more mighty than another and one may pull under while one surfaces and then--reverse switch for position, due to rocks, bends, etc...

sometimes a "post"/"current" may drift to the side, or at other times, due to volital currents, one "post"/"current" may disappear and others surface and push for main-course....

all in all, it is still "the river" and "still moving"... let the river do its job, and we will find better peace as to what the river really is and what it means:

a flowing through life's lands...

(let it flow, leb, is what i reckon i am trying to say....and enjoy the river with the currents that you DO see now..... if needs be, and at proper times, the folks that posted will post again, and, others again will not = it is all in the "course of life" and where each folk feels they should be, or want to be, for the best, at any given time... each course of each river has its own major bed, and this one has its bed, and folks know how to do their "thing" as to their own personal current that makes the whole...)

well, hope that helps some... rivers are best when you dont mess with their landscaped natural beds... there is a reason--otherwise the overflow can be damaging to the river and the land round about...

*edit: also, too, as with rivers, on occasions there are huge rocks that one may not understand... some folks have a need to post rocks in the river-flows as well... if you dont understand the rocks (as on occasion i may not) just steer around the rocks... (as i am doing, right about now)... or, if it is a rock as to learning, (which some are) then, tackle those rocks with good learning and climbing skills, and you will get past them just fine...

Should Threads be Deleted ?

Well, since most topics are of political persuasion today I say:

1) Form a board of proponents and opponets

2) Each create a platform

3) Have a party convention for both

4) Create huge controversy about the topic

5) Bring it to a vote

6) Complain about how the vote was unfair

7) Never come to a conclusion

Should a Thread be Deleted.....who cares as long as people aren't.....hehe

He, probably like most of the Western World, is kinda thinking the Taco sucks maximum asss. The continuous political crap is such a drain on anything fun that posting on the Taco should be near the bottom of any sane persons list.
