personally I am way to young to date girls half my age (21) but with that said, the last two girls I dated for an extended period of time were a few to six years older and I have had enough of THAT! all knowing what they want and where they are going... screw that. I know where I am heading and it is not down! seriously my last girlfriend was there for my twenty-first b-day and she asked me to MARRY her! (not on my birthday, thank god) straight up asked me to give up my aspirations of being a guide, traveling the world etc... so for NOW i should be dating clueless 19 year olds. probably won't hurt my head so much...

I'm getting the impression that too many think age is more important than it is. Find someone you are attracted to and really get along with. Date, communicate and don't hook up with the idea you are going to change the person.

Some of the guys comments re: sex are valid. I can't tell you how many guys tell me they spend their nights in separate bedrooms. Bad.

After marriage, many women tend to get too involved with jobs, kids etc. and the guy of their dreams gets put on the back burner so to speak.

Your relationship should be first, then kids, extended family, job etc. IMHO of course, now out to wash the car.

Absolutely, works out very well, a younger man is more playful, more intellectual, more open to ideas, has more stamina...the list goes on

BUT an older man is more focused, has more serenity, makes long range plans, is less drama - prone.. has stability of character

Men are such gorgeous creatures.

EDIT: plus the older man usually has two trucks

" i'm not dating for a fling; i'm dating for a ring. "

Try dating just to learn about other people and let them learn about you. When you date, try doing activities that encourages interaction and do as big a variety of activities as possible. This way you each see as many different aspects of your personalities as possible.

At the end of the date, try to be as honest as possible with the other person. Tell them what you liked about the date and what you did not like.

If you are only after a ring, you will try to make yourself look as good as possible, even better than you actually are. You might be disdainful of the weaknesses of others. But, we need good partners because of our own weaknesses.

Quartz, You asked women if they would dig a man half their age.
You're 40 to their 20....You're 50 to their 25...Don't think so. They're still boys not men.

As far as this age thing goes...connected with alot of people lately. Example: Met a 46 year old high powered corporate CEO. He acts like 65. Not that much fun. Met a 50 year old that has fun with no age boundaries apparent...does it all.

Age is highly overated as a criteria for good, working relationships or even friendships. Just my opinion. Lynnie

Or...
She is trophy wife material.
----------------

Kidding aside...
Once you grow up and "really reach that level of maturity..." Everyone falls under the age called "adulthood." The most mature, dependable and capable ex I ever had was 25 years old. The most exciting man I ever met was in his 50's... This should show that age doesn't say much. "It is the person."

Interesting. I'm older, and happily married (to a woman 8 years younger), but I noticed back around forty or so that I was being attracted, variously, to women from 20 to 60 years old. Something to be said for women of all ages I think, though in the end as someone just said it really does come down to the individual you're talking about. Can't say I ever felt younger women per se had any lock on my interest or attention before I met my wife, some were younger, some weren't.

My wife on the otherhand, and on a daily basis, attracts more notice from men half her age then you can shake a stick at. Me? Hell, I'm lucky to garner a cute look from a young woman once a month - and then only the few months I'm climbing hard each year. And half those times it's usually followed by a shocked look once they're finally in close enough range to realize what they're looking at...

question for you T*R - when you are 45, do you think you will be staring at the 21 year old tan, buff poolboy with something akin to lust in yer heart ?

that would be part of your answer.

But for some of us older men, there is just not a lot in common with women our age - seems like many of the ones I meet are more interested in a man's stock portfolio and long term plans than having some fun and causing some trouble, and 'climbing something on baffin island', or 'quitting my day job to climb and play music' is not exactly the answer they are looking for when they want to talk about goals...;-)

Just doesn't sound right until you are at least 40 years of age. And even then, you would have to be an immature 40yo to be able to put up with a 20 yo girl. Just too many things that a 20 yo female is still trying to go through to be able to date a 40yo guy.

There are the exceptions to the rule. And of course if you are just out there to bang the chick, well then as long as they are legal I guess it doesn't matter.

Part of our visceral attractions are rooted deep in our animal biology. Men get attracted to younger women because they are wired on an unconscious level to desire the freshest, most viable mate. In history, older women could hardly have children. Men are programmed to desire women in a direct, hungry manner, like seeing delicious food.

Women are stuck raising kids and have, historically had a period of dependence on the man, so biology has programmed them to seek security and strength.

Look at the animal kingdom, the males are usually going for the hot young females one after another and the females are fighting them off until the biggest stud comes around. They also have this biological clock urge to have kids even though they cost big bucks, hurt like hell, and take your freedom away.

That doesn't mean we don't have higher voices and preferences within us, but we have to deal with these basic impulses.

Peace

hey there... most men, like most folks, are stoked on finding whatever the newest "item" that the MEDIA is pushing at any given moment in time...

long ago, perhaps a "happy homemaker" was speical and for marriage...

now adays.. anything goes that the MEDIA figures they can use to make money... and they use such "items" (gals, in this case) on the covers of magazines, in the movies, tv shows, half-time, on book covers... and the list goes on, as they push more "young gals" (and sadly, many much TOO YOUNG gals) into the flashing lights for the men-of-the-world to be mesmorized by... (hard for them to shake such stuff loose from the brain, to think on other kinds of advertising)....

*well, t*r, i had to post something, as i just posted at the "so called counter attack" post/thread... seems this was my best shot at the ol' target of answering...

The retired Valley hardman standard has always been 1/2 your age and 1/2 your weight. so.... something like 23 and 105lbs......

Jingy: this formula will not work with your hand.

Thanks Russ... But for you isn't it something like 53+ with a weight of 135lbs? Good luck finding one that fits that Valley Hardman Standard... HAHAHA

Or you could just stick with the Sooze! She rips!

F*ck biology. I've never had a serious romantic relationship with anyone younger than me. The closest was just one year older. All others were 7-14 years older. It has everything to do with being able to relate to someone. There is nothing more sexy than a d*mn smart, interesting person who also takes care of themselves/is atheletic.

Bukowski wrote some funny-ass sh*t about this;

in one story he's this older artist dude and
his two women, both less than half his age,
would sit around arguing - trying to
describe just how big of a sh*t he was,
for going out with them...

funny as hell.

Okay, so only one confirmed member of the Half My Age Club, this being Locker. However the poor bastard has paid the price, with at least two if not three ex-wives.

Hey, wait a minute! Locker writes that at the time the picture was taken, she was twenty and he 41. So what? It's just a picture. Is this intentional misrepresentation? Or legit proof of HMAC?

Hey Locker - send me the original and I'll host it for you...

Edit: I hung out with a 38 year old French woman (I was 30 at the time, heh),
who had a two year old daughter. She was amazingly toned, yet still quite feminine.
I asked her how she got such an amazing body, and she said {cue strong French accent}:

"I always move my body"...

-there you have it, ladies...

This may be considered thread drift, but I'm a 42y.o. college freshmen and I was hoping for some advice on how to get me a 21y.o. G/F? And yes I am here for the education, and I'm not distracted by 18-21y.o. women with their under pants sticking out the top o their levi's.
