OK Folks, as I'm five weeks away from leaving for the Facelift it's time I start with a head count as well as collecting funds (as I need to start ordering some supplies soon).

Sushi is offered:
* Tuesday September 23rd at $30/person
* Thursday September 25th at $30/person
* Saturday September 27th. This is a donation event. Any funds collected above the cost of the food will be donated to the YCA.

For those of you that don't know the deal the menu usually includes fish items like:
Fresh Uni From San Diego
Fresh Big Eye Tuna from Honolulu
Fresh Tasmanian Salmon
Fresh Kajiki (Blue Marlin) from Honlulu
Soft Shell crab
smoked tuna
Yellow Tail
Fresh/Salt water Eel (BBQ)
Ikura
Tobiko
Masago
Tako
Ika
Hotagai
etc. etc. etc.

We'll also be trying to do other evening meals as well as doing at the very least group coffee every morning (I'm now equipped to churn out coffee for lot's of people). We'll have a donation jar for these meals and any funds collected above food costs will also get donated to the YCA.

I prefer paypal but don't mind checks. email me for payment info.

Can't wait!

Om Shanti,
~nature

Ok.. So here's what I've got as a plan.. And let me know if this is a problem for anybody....

I'd like to work it so that I get fed.. not first.. but second at each sitting.. and have the sushi delivered in such a way that a new fish is tasted at each sitting...

For the record a "sitting" is basically me sitting at the famous Nature sushi table, high elbowing anyone reachin' for my dish! Doh!!

Thanks Nature for posting up this info. I'll be there

Will any of this be a problem?

The prospect of a sushifest is giving me a "chubby", but 2000 climbers in the valley for a week is about as appealing as putting said " chubby" into the Chop saw. It would be awesome to get "Burning Barn" back together but the securitas in the valley won't go for it. Let's hit somewhere else. How about outside of area 51 on BLM land in the middle of NV. Kind of "Rrrrgh" own version of burning man or "Burning Barn" as it may be... Anyone up?

Mark,

I know what you mean........but in another respect it's yosemite with 2,000 climbers!!! Actually, the facelift had a small feel to it anyways. More like 50 climbers. Your right though, I don't think they would put up with Burning Barn ( we played out a couple weeks ago...I was there, you were there, do you remember?).

last year there was a three page thread about simply a stunning Bongo Boy who apparently kept someone up past ten o'clock. Tony, Dave and I are keeping the faith here in Flagstaff. We have been practicing.

Anyways, I am either A) Bringing every instument I own or B) bringing a small teddy bear to keep me amused at night. I will leave it up to the SUPERTOPIANS to deciced. Consider this your election process............................................

I'll be staying at Camp 4. If I hear any drumming from Yellow Pines there, there may be a problem. :-)

"Quiet hours are from 10 pm to 6 am; generators may be used sparingly during daylight hours." http://www.nps.gov/yose/planyourvisit/campregs.htm

It doesn't say whether the quiet hours apply to motorcycles.

The FaceLift is intended to showcase climbers in a positive light. IMHO, we should be on our best behaviour. Yes, have lots of fun. But think of others. Many of those staying in Yellow Pines will be getting up early and working hard. Others have small children. They shouldn't have to ask for quiet.

I'm spending about $600 for a generator so we can keep the power past bed time w/o making any noise.

I think it's the same type as the one we got last year.

The thing is.... it won't power the PA system so Anders won't have to worry :-)

Loading the trunk would be good. Demand is an infinite constant in the equation while supply is a diminishing return. You do the math...

Though we certainly do need and want music we'll probably have to keep bongo boy in check past the 10PM hour. He's a horn player after all...

Fishy... I'm glad you and the family will be out again! That's fantastic.

Ricky D man, you put a smile on my face with that post. I'm so glad to hear that you and Dawn will be there to help out. With a little luck PapaJoto will also make the journey. That'll make three skilled rollers. Plus, if Brutus and Nurse Ratchet make the journey we'll really be covered.

Sushi Rollers and prep slaves get half off the buy in.

---

I wrote this in another thread. Worth posting here:

The drill each morning will be as follows:

A 5 gallon stainless steel pot will be sitting on top of the stove (filled from the night before). A smaller one will be next to it. Please light both. The smaller one is for your quick fix on coffee. The larger to feed the masses their dose of caffeine.

I have two #6 cones and 2 carafe's to go long with it. Plus a thermos or three.

A large ladle will adorn the 5 gallon stainless pot. We'll use that to pour water over the precious ground bean. Flavors yet to be determined (but I like mine hot black and bitter - no cream/sugar).

First one up light the stove please. A lighter at the end of the cord that is attached to said stove better stay there.

I'm serious about feeding people coffee.

Oh... and there's also a glass carafe we can put milk in. Soy can stay in the box. Real sugar or Agave syrup also available. Tea and Yerba Mate too if needed.

After that's all said and done we'll fire up the griddles for french toast and pancakes.

Maybe eggs to order plus potato's one morning.

Oh... and just ignore the fact that my eyes are fully bloodshot and I need toothpicks to keep 'em open. Looks are deceiving. Blame Fatty for my hangover.

I posted this on another thread and probably should have just done it here.

I have finally got confirmations on the evening shows. They are all going to be in the East Auditorium behind the Visitor Center. Alpinist Magazine is going to supply free beer and I will have free wine too. Better pace yourself, because it is going to be a long week.

Wednesday the 24th show will start with Don Lauria showing his slide show and Glen Denny's slide show following.

Thursday the 25th is the Reel Rock Film Tour.

Friday the 26th starts with Dave Nettle's slide show of the Trango Tower with Tim O'Neil following.

Saturday the 27th is music provided by Josh Ritter sponsored by ClifBar. There is also an OktoberFest that night in El Portal that will go pretty late.

Sunday the 28th is the grand finale with free food and beverages. Dancing music will be provided by the Jonathan McEuen band.

The camping in the Valley is full on Friday and Saturday. I can still get camping for those nights in Crane Flat and Tamarack Campgrounds. Email me if you need camping.

After all, no one has started anywhere near as many threads about him as you (knott to
mention the teen-aged Rimjob). Might as well work out your obsession(s) face to face...

Ouch!

Nature - Just checking - I sent payment by Paypal a short while ago. If you did NOT get it - let me know and I will investigate! My PayPal site lists it in Activity, but last time I checked my bank account, it seemed as if the funds hadn't come out(a week after the PayPal action).

People - SEND NATURE THE SUSHI $$$$!!!!

Else he's gonna have to ask the first volunteers onsite to "spearhead" a cleanup out of the Merced for our fishfestfeast! We don't want that, I'm pretty sure.....

Happieee is right - I'm fairly sure Ken, if not the NPS, would be unhappy if we spent the FaceLift "cleaning" fish out of the Merced so we could eat them. Even if they were made into sushi. And even if we found some tires and bottles while we were doing it.

no worries lynne...

deadlines don't work. Tried that.

Guido is expensive these days so the whole strong-arming technique is out.

Essentially it comes down to me having to prod people a little bit. most of them are my friends and respect my efforts so it's not that big of a deal. But if I sit back and say nothing I just let myself get a little irritated so I'd rather be a little irritating.

And basically if you've been to a sushifest then I know your are good for it and you name goes on the list. If someone decides they won't be there they tell me. If you've never been and don't make arrangements with me I don't put your name on the list. So in that way the folks on the list are the ones I know I can count on.

So it's all good. Well... except for the Reverend PeganMonkeyBoy.... that guy is getting a hit put out on him!

Here is some news, though no surprise. They are doing road construction on Southside Drive from Yellow Pines to Sentinel Bridge and that section will be closed.

This means you can drive the first section of Southside Drive with the other traffic. When the other traffic crosses over to Northside Drive at El Cap crossover you can continue on Southside Drive to Yellow Pines. To get out you drive back to El Cap crossover rejoining regular traffic. The biggest inconvenience will be returning after driving to the Village. To get back you will have to drive back to Pohono Bridge to get back on Southside Drive. A good reason to bring a bike and headlamp. Might even be quicker to walk.

Thanks, Ken! Does Tom Evans know about what's going to be happening on his bridge over the next month? I'd guess all the traffic won't help with his photography, not to mention the "scene" there.

Seems a bit odd that one won't be able to just drive west to El Cap bridge, then cross over and drive east to Yellow Pine. I guess the traffic management is all planned, though.

Edit/add: It's about 30 minutes walk from Camp 4 to Yellow Pine, via the swinging bridge. Probably a bit more to walk from Yellow Pine to the Village, via Sentinel Bridge. About 1/3 that time on bicycle, though good lights STRONGLY recommended for night time riding.

I'd say I was chicken but that would cast apersions on our great leader.

So, let's just say I'm having second and third thoughts. Meeting so many new peeps all at once....Now with road construction and I don't know where I'm going anyway.

If and when I finally find "the yellow pine" off the yellow brick road and begin to set up camp #46 will say look at that rookie, let's go say hi. Yikessss ! And I was worried about a cot.

The only thing I know I can do is eat Sushi and pick up trash and drink fattrad's wine....and of course climb somewhat.

don't worry Lynne, you can choose just how social you want to be, and if all you do is pickup trash, well, that's ok too...

It's a very low key gathering, just a bunch of climbers, some old, some new, some in between. And it is a very good cause.

But what ever nth thought you have, we'll all understand your choice.
