By popular demand, well actually by demand of L, we bring you this thread, primarily to further drive site content away from stupid climbing topics, but also in the interest of humor, no matter how little.
Threads that are Lynnified become a bit sappy. the goodness and sweetness literally oozes from the thread eventually.
Negativism just shrivels up and dies out cause it can't compete with permanent happy thoughts.
I try to avoid these thread at all costs. (see, it works!)
Threads that are Loisified are totally different, as you may have noticed. A loisified thread rambles. It rambles without a pattern, from simple logical innacuracy to tragic errors in thinking that would make a professor of math cry. Or laugh.
Because Lois, although she does not usually mean to be, is very funny.
Loisified threads are also full of anger and exasperation. Not from Lois, but from those she infuriates and frustrates.
Remember, Lois IS the Emily Latella of ST. OR maybe of the whole world. It is really too bad that Gilda Radner is dead, or we coula ask her if Emily was inspired by a nurse she met once in new Jersey. maybe Gene Wilder would know, We should email him and ask.
Well, that's all for now. Feel free to add your own observations to this analysis.

Ha ha Dirt! So true... Emily Latilla.... heh heh.
I never ever read anything LEB ever writes anymore, since she appears to only read the first 3-5 words of every post she responds to. So why waste my time?
I wonder why she stays here? The rest of us at least all climb.

Perfect, Curt!
Now look, this is the type of humor we all need to invest in once in a while, and not take ourselves so darn seriously!
Lois is actually a very nice woman, and yes, she occasionally diverts a thread some 120 degrees off course from the OP because she wants to talk about things she knows about, and that's not climbing. She's been amazingly good of late at starting her own threads and allowing all sorts of diversions by anyone willing to participate. I like her style.
You can choose to be annoyed, frustrated, angry, etc...or you can just accept that this is how life is, and direct the focus back to the OP. It's really up to you how you react to her posts.
What I like about Lois is that she very seldom--if ever--tells people on this Forum what they should do, think or feel. She may be unsympathetic to the poor, the Democrats, the people worried about The Myth of Global Warming or whatever, but she doesn't should people she's chatting with.
Dirtineye has a biting wit that...well...bites. He's struggling with a disease that should've taken him to The Farm a while back...and by sheer tenacity, he's told it to fluck off for a while (BTW Curt...I've got a great blueberry miracle cure for...oh wait...nevermind).
Now sometimes, the negativity gets to me...especially when I'm going through my own challenges. And in the past I wasn't good about dealing with it constructively. I've realized that was my lesson, not Curt's.
He's a really smart guy who appears to get frustrated with certain things and doesn't always monitor his responses. I chose to get offended...that was my reaction. I'm the one who chose it. The flip-side of his lack of politeness is a wickedly fun sense of humor, and some pretty adroit observations on what's going on in the world. You either take the "good" with the "bad" (these are projections of our dualistic nature, BTW--not Absolute Truth), or you X yourself from most of life and become a miserable clod of complaining mud. That sounds like a lot of fun, doesn't it?
Lynne is a really nice woman, too, who's fairly new to the Forum and appears to feel the need to monitor things, sort of like a Den Mother. She posts a lot, and critiques other people's posts with many shoulds and shouldn'ts, always accompanied by her faith in Jesus, the bible, a bubbly salutation and smilie faces. That's just her gig and it seems to make her happy, while allowing her to feel connected to the climbing world.
This all goes back to MisterE's thread on Levels of Connection. These are all ways we relate to the world--our styles may differ, but in the end, we're all doing the same thing: Trying to connect to others.
In the past, if I didn't like someone's style, I'd just ignore their posts. What I'm finding now is that after I get over my own (as in "owning it") emotional reaction to what someone writes, I can have an exchange with them that comes from a much more objective place. Or I can choose to not engage at all. Again--and this is the point of this essay--you one and all are choosing whether to participate in these discussions or not.
Want to be happy? Stop trying to change what is and accept that this is the way it is right now. Be like Doug and just laugh at it. Or get all pissed off and post up AC-like rejoinders...but remember it's you reacting. It's your stuff getting activated...which is really a good thing in the end...although not many of us think so.
Thanks for the thread, Curt. It made me laugh.

Lois and Lynne are both nice.
Lois is just irritating like water torture because she has a additional capacity for denial that prevents her from absorbing any argument or facts that run contrary to what she wants to believe.
If she didn't want to think the sun was out in the sky, she'd argue against it until it wasn't in the sky anymore.
We all have places of denial in us, we believe what we want to believe. Some folks are just harder core than others.
She's post and say that it's because she doesn't agree with me that I'm writing this. I beg to differ in advance.
I don't always agree with Lynne either but she would try to listen to my point and respond to the spirit of questions directed at her.
Peace
Karl

what dirt don't know is the history with Lynne. If he did he(or she) may be a little more "understanding". She dates back to the(at least)70'S climbing scene and is very well connected with the southern California climbing scene as she was the wife to the late great Dan. He was very instrumental in helping and climbing with many of us here and Lynnie was there the whole time. She IS a mother and that may be why she has that effect on ST, but she made a big effort this last year to reconnect with this community and she is accepted again in this part of the country and has actually started climbing again(big yeah). I hope she continues to post up and as with all ST stuff, if you don't like it or the poster, don't read it.....but if you don't read it then don't criticize either. I for one will continue to look for her stuff and read it...and Lynne if you have more photo's.....post up, I love the old stuff you were posting with Dan and the crew!
So I will wait for the dirt from dirt, but oh well, some of us DO like Lynnie.

Ouch!,
Your sense of the ridiculous has been eaten by cats. I call it The Myth of Global Warming so that people like Woody and Bluering and Jody don't get all annoyed and go Off-Topic about there being no such thing as GW--just look at Mars!--and then we'd have to tell them they're LEBisizing.
(BTW...did the Dread Pirate BuddhaCat come to visit you last night?)
Locker,
Sometimes people (or life situations) keep hitting us upside of the head with the same old problems, annoyances, faulty relationships, health issues, etc. We humans love to blame everything "out there" for what's going on "in here".
If we can put the blame somewhere else, then PRESTO!, we don't have to take responsibility for it and thus "can't do anything about it". It's a great way for staying stuck in the muck of life.
My point, which confused you, was that realizing someone or something pushes your buttons--and that you have buttons to begins with--is the first step towards healing whatever is underneath there that's making you react. Like an alcoholic finally realizing they have a drinking problem and deciding to go to AA. Awareness is the "good" thing, or gift of the interaction.
However, Awareness is not always pleasant. And the way that awareness is achieved can be downright bloody painful. The entire human race labels painful experiences as "bad". Hindsight often proves these labels to be erroneous.
Bluey, sorry you missed the point...no one's criticizing anyone here, but posting styles are under discussion.
And if you make Dirt cry again, you're gonna be in a lot of trouble. Now go LEBilize/Lynnesize/Blueringatize some other threads, will ya? ;-)

I couldn't agree with you more, AF! Why, look at the calming influence her den-mothering has had already:
People's threats of causing bodily harm have been minimized to simple warnings of a bite here or there.
Dirt has not only been wonderfully funny, but has expressed an affection for someone--a charming behavior we rarely see and would love to see more of.
Ouch!--for once!--is the one with the red face.
Chewy has made all us cat-lovers laugh the turpentine off our cat-arses.
MisterE has expressed curiosity about a huckleberry cure, which, I'm sorry to say, MisterE, we'll have to take up in a private email as Dirt would go ballistic if I wrote naturopathic cures on his thread (and rightly so).
Locker is still--thankfully--confused about my post and no longer in any danger of getting bitten by AF.
Lois and Lynne have become famous on the Taco for simply being who they are...and have forms of posting named in their honor, which is actually quite an honor.
And Bluering--right on cue--has proven that some people simply do not understand the mysterious concept of humor.
Now I for one think all of this behavior modification a great thing, because as AF pointed out...we're all in need of a little DMing sometimes on this Forum. Talk about herding--or rather--den-mothering cats...good luck, Lynne!
This thread is fabulous!

I repeat: HOW CAN YOU GIRLS DO THAT??????

Yo, Ron Gomez,
I did find more photos. Have a few of Corona Del Mar. Thang's little czy now, but will definitely post later.
Thank you for being the great guy at the Josh Reunion. You knew Dan well, but we had never met. You were the first person Amy and I ran into that night and it was super getting to know you.
You gave Dan's daughter some great stories 'bout her Da'. Then you fed us BBQ'D Salmon and asparagus with salad and chardonnay...and you didn't even know we would be there.
TGFOF....thank god for old friends
Smiles, Lynne

locker, I have respected your sheeeee, but.... Your drifts are a bit too drifty....maybe LEB likes Paris in lace ... but I don't think either of us dig it.
Big fat guys are ones to be avoided...especially on posts. Ain't funny. Being in the medical profession I analyze what their life expectancy is as well as their quality of life remaining....that fat elvis is nada in both catagories...plus he's just darn UGLY.
Post BITD hot guys...and gals (for the guys of course) Post us something we all can enjoy...not well....Futon Paris and Ugly Elvis. Smiles, Lynne

You are not just drifting, the rip tide has got you. If you head any further out into the "ocean" I'm gonna have to ask Chris Mc to erase my name from the Thread title..still kinda smiling..kinda. Lynne

Those are some wonderful photos of you climbing with The Toddmeister, Lynne. Better late than never, right? That's the way I've always felt.
Ah...the joys of shredded fingertips, scraped shins and bloody knuckles. I remember my first climbing experience--in JTree--for 4 days in a Vertical Adventures class--with Certifiable Dave Mayville (I love that guy). An escapade in lunacy that hooked me for life the first hour. I was supergluing my fingertips by the end of the day so I could still climb and not bleed all over everything.
By the end of the forth day, I could flash a 10a sport route but not feel my fingers. ;-)
Now if only we could get Lois on a rope.....
OK, are we back on topic yet?

So you're saying the road to "L" is paved with good intentions?
OK that was weak, but almost!!

Karl,
Don't short-change yourself...you were just a bit premature, not weak.

It wasn't this L....ynne that requested the Locker photo. Think pro Lois and Lynne are done with this thread.
We bequeath it to the other L'ssss. Happy sunday.
Edit: I shouldn't speak for Lois, it's just that she has not posted in a long time....But the current drift is so far beyond the thread title just push the delete button for this L. Sir Russ taught us about THE BUTTON. Smiles lrl

That's right, flake out on a thread that needs your help!
And know that you are abandoning it to Lockeration, UGH.
I hope you are happy now.
