This thread AKA "The Todd Gordon Appreciation Thread." Of course you do! The famous proprietor of the 'ol Gordon Ranch has hosted more climbers than he could shake a stick at.

Here at the Rubidoux bouldering contest.

He was the only local at this crag near Lukachukai. Oh, also Brian Povolney.

He set an early record of 7 on top of Mexican Hat. It started to tip but we all ran to the uphill side and righted it. Whew!

Anybody ID this route?

Hey Bob, hope all is well!
It took us all day to climb that pile. I led the first 1/2 pitch (when I lowered off I was a mental wreck) and Todd led the 2nd 1/2. We weren't sure if it was dirt or wood, but one thing for sure, it wasn't rock.

Can't believe how much he looks like his twin brother from another mother Fidel in the Spider Rock Overlook...

I first met Todd at a party at Powell's...KP was trying to drink all the strawberry margaritas in sight and without his helmet on, he was a danger to one and all--especially himself.

Todd was a lovely man-sitter that night. He kept taking Kevin's margarita and hiding it...and Powell, in his sharp-as-nails state of mindlessness, would believe he'd drunk the thing, and return to rolling around on the floor.

Just an all-round wonderful guy, that Todd. His reputation for loving choss and bolting any chosspile that even a chuckwalla would find intimidating is not to be undervalued. Todd has put up some fantastic routes. JTree wouldn't be what it is today without him.

And as for the example he sets as a father--you new dads should take notes. He adores his kids and takes them wherever he goes. Talk about an inspiration.

Salude, Todd! You're one heck of a great guy!

Not only know him but love him as a very kind friend. Heartily second RV's remarks and everyone else's.

Dan introduced me to Todd when I first went with him to J. Tree pro about 30 years ago and didn't know anyone. Todd always makes people feel welcome.

Todd was the essence of patience and kindness, enjoying the process and joy of teaching newcomers to climb...sharing that special gift with them.

Saw this gift at work again at the Josh redux reunion in April. Of course Todd not only had his young son with him, but his latest teen prodigy. I took the young man home that evening (sorry, Todd, forgot his name) and he raved about T.G. the whole way. BITD Todd took our youngsters climbing and his amazing enthusiasm rubbed off especially on our oldest son.

In December when Dan died, it was T. G. that did a memorial thread for him on ST. Something that meant so very much to me.

God Bless you always Mr. Todd Gordon. From the entire Leichtfuss Family.

Hey;...thanks for the good word, and thanks, Dee ee for the cool photos;......which I have never seen before. I was thinking that SOMEONE had to have taken all those cool pics;....it was Dee ee....who I have shared many an adventure with.....easily many of the best trips and climbs of my life with Dee ee, and many, many other fun, cool, safe, and excellent climbing partners I have been so lucky to share a rope with......Sometimes I struggle with my new life with all the infants, and struggle with getting older, fatter, and weaker;.....but so what!...happens to us all, and I couldn't have possibly even ever dreamed of such wonderful past adventures....my present situation, although hectic , manic, and challenging,.....is too cool for words;...I'm loving it!........So my past was awesome, my present fantastic..........I don't see why my future shouldn't be equally terrific;.....and much credit to my happiness and blessing are my great climbing bros......Thanks for all the great adventures we planned , executed, and survived together. I hopped on a 5.10+ climb two days ago;.....I was unable to get the climb;...not only did I not get the climb...my fingers, wrists, and arms are still sore two days later......(no bueno).......but I'm still out there bangin' it out....and having a gas. Climb on, and thanks again for the kind words, and cool pics.

Doesn't the story go something like this?

In his previous life, Todd was walking through the wood and came upon a dead lioness, shot by hunters, and her orphaned cubs. Todd gave his life so the cubs would have food and survive. The next life is history.

Todd, thanks for your profound example of humanity. We are all better for it. Hope the kids get to see some good fireworks tonight.

Hey, dee ee, wassup with you also? So great to see you and talk with you! You are like Mari, you never look any different! Life is getting good again! The Josh reunion was a catalyst of change for me. So again thanks all for inviting Amy and I..

Decided then, that I did not want a boring life after D. so I dropped 15 lbs.,started working out and also decided to learn to climb, and other fun things to get out of the deadly comfort zone of life.

That's why I like this TOPO thing. Everytime I get complacent I see a Thread like this about old friends..... or read about a TR like today's DH and Graham and think, WOW! Never in this lifetime for me, but I have some nice little goals in mind.

Todd got this classic roof pitch on the FA of the Pope. After turning the big roof on good varnished sandstone the rock turned to absolute choss (A4 old school). He ripped a couple pieces of junk and went for a nice airball. I think one of the pieces was a 10" nail and another was a 6 piton stack equalized to a two lobe cam. The second time up he made it stick.

todd gordon introduced me to desert climbing.

the photos on walls of his house helped open my eyes to climbing all over the world.

he always has a smile on his face and energy to give.

i am super gratefull to have been lucky enough to have been able to spend time at his house and experience the true meaning of giving.

i bummed a hand drill from todd to drill my first bolt at joshua tree. he gave me the run down and i still remember the taste in my mouth as i settled onto the hook.

i just saw todd a few weeks ago at his slide show. i saw a lifetime of adventures from around the world. i was inspired and proud to be able to call him a friend.

in a time filled with 5.15, big bucks, and media todd gordon is honestly one of the few real climbers i know.

i miss sitting in front of his fireplace with a cat on my lap listening to todd recount a adventure somewhere.

as sport climbing was rolling into fashion i was inspired to pound pins and climb mud towers instead.

thanks todd

Kevin Daniels is one of the few other real rock climbers that I know and one of the few who ranks with Eric Ericcson in "hottieness." Is that a word? Whatever.
Here is a good one of GX BX DX.

On the FA of the "Manly Dike," I placed a short bolt ladder onto the dike (I think I scoped it). Then it was Todd's turn. He went up and did this section (to a stance another 10 feet right) and HAD to place a bolt. Well, someone had to and he was there. It was the hardest bolt placement I have ever witnessed in my life. It took him 45 minutes to get the tools in hand as it was so steep (he kept saying "I can't drill here"). THEN it took another hour and a half to get the hole started (he had to keep dropping the tools to keep from tipping over backwards). THEN it took another hour to get the hole finished (whoa, he COULD drill there). Needless to say, he was pretty worked when he lowered off (Margy on the marathon belay).
After that it was Charles's turn. He had the (climbing not drilling) crux. He got a bolt in and after one fall cranked through and finished it up.
Later some fellows named Hensel and Woodward freed the start.

I was somewhere else far away <Germany, I think> climbing, and I heard this conversation going on about this guy Todd Gordon with this place in California where you could go and stay forever, so I walked over and said, "Hey, I'm Todd Gordon, that's my place you're talking about..." The dude talking looked me over from head to toe and said "No. You are not Todd Gordon."

Hard very severe appreciation to Todd for all those nights we spent at your house and for your generosity and friendship over the years. Great parties, too. And the gym in the garage -oooh.

Great picture Todd.

Normally ignore the LEB stupidity...

But:

Todd and Andrea's family is perfect exactly as it is.

It is a small planet.

Unsolicited advise that Todd and Andrea should to try for another kid, and it is "only one more" would strike most as rude and obnoxious.

Sure you will disagree.

LEB, you are so far stretched out of reality it's beyond belief.

Stop sampling the meds at the hospital you work at and let things be. There is a handful of us who actually know the man and his struggles.

If you wish to convey that Todd is a great dad and has a great family, and a generous person, fine. Beyond that, just shut up.

Thanks, M.P. for the photo of Pictures at an Exibition.......your 17th birthday.......(start em' young!)
LEB;.....thanks for the idea, but no more kids;.....I got a vasctomy;.....I got my baby batter bottled;...my dick docked...my snake snipped, and my hog tied.......if we have any more kids, I will need to go on Maury Povich to see who the father is. No offense taken over the conversation about more children.,,,but three is all I can afford and handle for now;....and just think, ....if for some reason I were to have a girl now.......I would be 71 years old on her 16th birthday....a chilling reminder that it's time to cap the cuddlebone, knott the knob, corral the tadpoles, and kool the cucumber.....harness the hot dog, noose the noodle......blow the scro......

Todd - Ah, life is good. (love those little tykes, but it's nice to have a breather.)Natalie is a cutie.

Natalie - Dad, which dimension am I in ?

Jim - You need to understand what's going down these days in the government.

Lynnie - Jess enjoyin' the scene and glad to have so many kool peeps at Casa Leichtfuss

Todd; You have a bazillion friends out here on the interweb and in real life. Hope you have a good Christmas. Times can be tuff, but as long as we have friends we are dimes over dollars. Or is it the other way around?

My life has been enriched by having met you and your family and some of the taco people that regard you as a friend.

Cheers

Done praised his routes here before. I owe the man a good six-pack. I MUST have crossed paths with the guy over the years but can't pinpoint an actual meeting. Hell, I helped Tucker get his start in world class dirt baggery, so I must have run into Todd.
