About laws like cracked windshields and everything else.

You're not supposed to question this.

You are SHEEP and you WILL obey the fuking law!!!!!

It's there because your too stupid take care of your own self.

Other people are there to tell you what to do SHEEP.

Now STFU and obey and do as you're told.

Or else ..... !!!!!

I can barely see out of my windshield as it is... I don't see how the cracks make it any worse.

You might want to try some windex

Hell, Scandihoovian sheep aren't allowed to drive cars with dents or mis-matched
panels and such! Gotta keep the streets looking good, don't ya know!

Good point Werner. Sometimes I wonder if my life would be better if I just followed your advice.

But I'm not particularly excellent at being a sheep. I am getting somewhat better at appearing to be one when it matters.

I will say that a new windshield is a pretty sweet luxury. But I find myself taking more pictures while driving.

You think driving while texting is tricky? hehe try taking pics with zoom while driving unfamiliar roads at full speed.

^^^ depending on your deductible, insurance companies will replace cracked windshields for free

My question is why can you get a ticket for a cracked windshield? What is the compelling public safety issue? I understand the tail lights and smog rules. I can see the arguments regarding cell-phones and seatbelts and helmets (whether I agree or not)

But I've never had any concerns about a cracked windshield.

It is good probable cause to pull you over...sky's the limit from there.

The windshield actually provides support to the structural integrity of the vehicle. A cracked windshield will not be as strong and could result in less protection in a rollover

A windshield is also designed as part of the airbag system. A weakened windshield can cause the airbag to deploy improperly.

I do not own a windshield company, and yes, I drive with cracked windshields until I get a fix-it ticket.

I guess you haven't experienced compromised safety glass falling out like sugar...pretty scary, let alone dodging the shards created by it.

Let's talk statistics. My last 3 accidents involved other people on cell phones hitting me.
I've never been hit by a drunk driver. Seems like my odds are better with the drunks.

On my way to a wrap party last night. 101SB into downtown busy as usual.
We are all stop and go at 30 mph when the car left of me doesn't stop and SLAMS her Benz into the SUV in front of her.
I didn't see the phone but unless she had fallen asleep there is no other reason.
This impact may have killed a motorcyclist.

I see cops on cell phones all the time. They drop their phones when I pull up next to them on my bike. It's a joke.

If you don't care about your own safety, that's fine.

Have some respect for the lives of others and pull over to call.

I ride all the time, not texting or calling folks while doing it and my life is fine. I don't miss appointments or meetings and can tell what the weather is by looking at it. I manage three businesses and coordinate feature film fx. You don't need to text/talk while driving.

Try it.

I believe the police are allowed to talk on cell phones. They have a waiver. I'm not saying it makes sense......

Edit

California Vehicle Code Section 23123 (d). This section does not apply to an emergency services professional using a wireless telephone while operating an authorized emergency vehicle, as defined in Section 165, in the course and scope of his or her duties.

Gee, I wonder how us pilots manage to fly, navigate, and talk at the same
time. Maybe there is another factor in play? Granted, we don't do a lot
of tail-gating.

Maybe it's the civilian in them 'cause they sure drop 'em when I ride up.

That, or it ain't 'official business'

Pilots are trained, drivers, not so much.

Riki is a spammer.

cell phone while driveing is 5 times more dangerous than drunk driveing. heard that on NPR. some fancy study.

we have had 5 fatalitys on Rt 4 here in VT all on the same narrow winding15mile stretch in the last two months. all from crossing the crossing the center line. not all the investigations are complete but cell phone blamed in several.

Pissed because they got a ticket I hope. Sounds like most of the public supported the sting. I have lost track of how many times I have almost been hit by some ahole on a cell phone.

Yeah, they got tickets, and I'm glad too. Like you, I have almost been run over more than a dozen times by ladies (sorry, it always was) while I was in a crosswalk and they were texting and turning at the same time, trying to "beat the traffic" coming from the other way.
