Yup,
Not long after dinosaurs roamed the earth,
Just a little bit past the Civil War really,
There were guys, um, -- mostly guys, ...groping the stone:

Keith Cunning, O'Kelley Crack, might even be Wangerbanger.

I'm not sure how this happened.
Somehow, just last weekend all of these crusty old dads materialized.
Jeebus!

If any of you from this shindig have pictures, why doncha' bring ' em on!
Some pre-1980s shots of all y'all would be cool too…

Lots happened,
Old debts were paid!

The back story: 24 years ago, I worked a day of hard labor for Andre Olobri.
He stiffed me! The little punk.
Well, not entirely, because he gave the Fish a c--note way back then, to pass along to me, and the Fish intercepted it, and confiscated the Ben Franklin as a levy against Andre for miscellaneous fines and embarrassments.

New terrain was covered:
(well, new to us, hahaha)

And some gems were plucked:

BVB, CONGRATULATIONS and a much better decision you made to stay clean bro!!! Just so you know....Roy Boy was distraught and wining all weekend about "BVB this and that,I miss BVB, good ole BVB would be nice to have him here"...but I'm sure he sees the light now!! If I can get someone to tell me how to load up photo's or how to burn a CD to sent to Roy so he can post up, I got a ton of shots you'd probably love to see of all yer bros. It was good to see everyone and good to see how many grey hairs can still climb hard, even if for just one climb....that we had ruthlessly wired and knew every move.
Roy as always, you did a great job in making sure this group stays together and in touch, it was a very special weekend, saw OLD friends and made new ones, climbed old routes, and climbed new ones. Time will always pass and things move on, but friendships like we ALL have seem to stand still when yer with those friendships. I most noticed that some of the faces(and bodies) have changed, voices don't and when I heard someone talk, I knew who it was and seconds later...it was like old times in the 70's. Thanks Roy for such a special time, getting friends together and making sure climbing buddies stay together.
Peace

sort of OT, but this is too good to resist. some of you might remember donald nitchie -- he wrote this for me while i was drying out...

Letter to a Friend in Rehab

Do you think there's anything left in the baggie
we stashed under the log behind the soccer field
in 1982, before we went back to the party and you puked
in your Empire State Building costume?
It would be a shame to just leave it there
and since you won’t be needing it any time soon
I wonder if you remember which log—
behind the goal or off to the left?

Here it’s in the 50s, gray, and blowing hard—
a mirror image of ourselves.
Everything conspires to remind us.

I woke at dawn, wondering if you were up,
staring at the ceiling, “settling in,”
as if you'd moved to a new town
or taken a job you'll someday say you’ve learned to love.
I can picture your lanky frame, ankles
poking over the mattress as if trying to fit
into a life several sizes too small.

I remember you atop that California ledge
beating your chest and yelling, “Bring out your women!”
Or the time you drove for hours to the crags
only to discover you’d forgotten your weed.
You turned around and drove back home.

The good news is, you don’t have to give up your stories.
You can bring them to rehab
like binges that don’t end in jail, or the morgue.
They say they can help—
evidence you give against yourself
to salvage what time you have left.

For as all climbers know, you can't stay high forever.
And as you said, the hardest part
is always the descent: the footwork tricky,
handholds hard to find in the dark
and adrenaline, your old friend, no help at all.
Maybe these words can help you get back down.
Once we were insatiable, fearless as Vikings.
It’s someone else’s turn now.

Dude LEAVE Andre alone!!! Along with a lot of others there, we kinda took Andre under our arms....we love.....and HATE Andre, but we love him more than we hate him. It was soooo good to see the Schmootzfink(schitz stinks). He made amends and is good to go ...until the next time. In all honesty it looks like Andre is doing o.k., brought out the wife one night and came back the second despite two ball games with his kids. We DO age well!

Friday night April 5,
Andre Olobri regaled us with some terrific fish tales.
He told all the good ones;
-Like the time Mari and Moffatt went out hunting with Andre's rifle and Moffatt shot a rabbit, brought it back to Andre's apartment, skinned it and ate it! (leaving the entrails in a brown paper bag on Andre's porch)...

I know it looks like I'm the one doing the talking here,
But believe me, the man poured forth some awesome yarns!

There must have been 20 or so of us in the parking lot on Saturday morning.
We splintered off into groups; Craig Fry had had an idea for some of us to take a nice hike up to the Indian Head, where we planned to check out the Pumpkin Patch boulders.

Things were blooming!

Here's Larry, a guy who I've known, as with most of these people, since we were all teenagers.
30 years ago, Larry, every Friday, would drive up to my high school in his Dodge Power Wagon and together we'd head out to Joshua Tree.

Sweet Roy, the Pumpkin Patch was a REALLY cool new find. Fry is the man, was so glad he took us on the "hike", I'll fer sher be going back up there, like Tuolumne in Josh. There was this roof crack that should be a CLASSIC when it goes...got any shots of that in the pile(yes u do)? There is so so much new bouldering up there, but the approach oughta keep it quiet for a while longer...hopefully. Thanks for doing all the work and getting the shots up Roy Boy!

Lynn, that spot you mentioned earlier about Tobin driving the wrong way on a one way road...unless I'm way off base, as you leave hemet and head up the mountain to Idyllwild there is a place on Hwy 74 (florida st)where the road splits in the middle by some tall pepper or eucalyptus trees it goes one way for about a half mile maybe longer, surely long enough if yer going the wrong way! We use to use it as a "passing" lane back in the day. This was nothing compared to the blind passes on curves coming down the mountain! Yep, we were dumb asses! share any other stories you might have, we'd love to hear em!
