another lefty

Met him at the Glendale Avenue car show. The only entertainer whose autograph I got (signed CD after I BOUGHT IT!).

Funny thing about this one, Dick's not in it.

Dick, the day I loaned him my car (ha).

At ACL in 2004, Miss Yamagata played a set before The Roots played their set. I'd never heard of her, but she stole my heart. She plays piano, guitar and the fiddle...

18 & 2/3 Miles High

One of the lovliest I've ever found.

Kind ladies and kind gentlemen Soon I will be gone But let me just warn you all Before I do pass on: Stay free from petty jealousies Live by no man's code And hold your judgement for yourself Lest you wind up on his road.

Spent 3 hours at the annual Belfast, ME, highschool pops concert last night. Went on an invite from one of the parents, somewhat resigned to a semi-uncomfortable evening of barely off-key showtunes and kids whose meter waxes and wanes with their stagejitter heart rate. Had a few of those, but give them mad props for getting up there at all - kind of like watching a leader over her head gutting it out to the chains. Hands-sweatingly brave.

And then there was the rest. This tiny school, and there were multiple moments of punch-you-in-the-forehead greatness, a couple of young women whose voice and guitar (or uke, in one case!) would have caught your ear in a bar or busking on a busy city corner. A dozen-strong swing choir with scat and jazz timing. These two dudes, Heinrich and Zack, channelling James Dean/Ric Ocasek in dead-serious hair and deadpan doing a guitar/drum mashup of '80s hits with more gusto than chops but clearly still the heartthrobs of the show.

It was awesome.

Love this song...

(perhaps it's just me but I find it odd how this lady is sitting RIGHT NEXT to Mr. Hay while he plays)

Hey Tobia:
I read the book The Tin Drum by Gunther Grass several times, never saw the film. I may have to go see it now - the tale of Oskar Matzerath. If you send the drive back, I can fill it up with stuff of your own choosing, but I'll have to get you something to select from.

When Bob isn't working on his night moves, he celebrates like the rest of us:

Doucet - More Cajuns - I saw Doucet at the Roxy. This can't be the same lineup. It's been a long time.

Michael Doucet in 1992 put out Le Hoogie Boogie.

By design or perhaps coincidence John Lee Hooker put out his in 1949. A good deal at 79 cent, a steal at free.
