They say the eyes are the windows to the soul. Matty's soul had been crushed by 160 feet of #4 Camalots. He only had #3 Camalots.

But psych is easy to come by in the desert when a beer awaits.

Some people like to smoke crack instead of drink beer. All are welcome in the desert.

Sunrise finds you on a desolate dirt road without a soul in sight.

Then you remember you blew out two of your tires at midnight the night before.

But a forced rest day leaves you fresh to climb one or two thousand new boulders.

Sandstone is dandy but granite is where it is at.

A crack yields a balance problem for the ages.

While slopers are some peoples game.

It's a long way to Austria, so sometimes you just have to huck.

Caves await when you need to hide from the rain.

And when the sun clears the topout is ready to spit you off.

Good new problems are hard to come by.

Simply because they have horrifyingly slopey topouts.

But there is a light at the end of the tunnel.

Even though a storm is approaching.

The single malt will always be at camp.

HB, you're nominated to MVP: always, always a pleasure to open up your threads. Killer pics, time and again. The work you put in to get them and post em here is always evident and appreciated.

Folks like you and TKingsbury and many others make it impossible not to check back on this site every once in a while, in spite of all the other agro-drama-politico bullshit that flourishes most times. Even though this'll probably be on the second page before long, for those of us who come here to feel connected in some abstract way to climbing, pics like these cancel all that other stuff out in a heartbeat.
