Hi all,

I was wondering how to get off Turtle Rock. The Vogel book doesn't mention anything specific, and I didn't see anything last time I was there.

Any help would be appreciated, thanks

I remember walking off the back side in the directions of the picnic area. It goes.....if I remember right.

I remember getting down Turtle Rock w/ some significant head-scratching once, years ago. I think I ended up doing a scary rap of a barely-slung flake.

It isn't that bad or difficult to find but wanders back and forth and does take longer than most of the routes.

Walk down the tiers away from the NE face untill it gets untennable and then switchback down the tiers on the picnic area side untill you can go down a short chute.

I think the common mistake is to get into some serious down climbing that leads no where. It really is a "walk off"

if you can amble your way over to the north side (right near the benches, about 200 feet west of the main face thingy) you can get close enough to a series of ledges that are maybe 10-15 feet. Take the rope (that you inevitably have handy), quickly wrap it around a boulder thats just in view, and hand over hand your way down. Pull rope, all done!

It's like 15 feet, and ends in the dirt, so if you really wanted to just jump :D Its maybe 5.8 friction but if you just wrap one end and hand over hand half dome cables style it goes fast. If you fall doing that and somehow manage to hurt y ourself, well theres always golf :D
