Wow, thanks for the welcoming words, everybody!

Locker, I pay _you_ $2.33 if you show up dressed like this at FaceLift. I normally pay more to see stuff like this, but I'm not gainfully employed at the moment.

Nature, I love sushi, but see above. :)

GO, here we go again (geddit?!). Maybe you should drop everything and go to Yosemite with me! I hear they have some rocks there.

Mighty Hiker: easy 5.7 sounds like an excellent plan.

Cheers!

So rec.climbing still exists? And Slime and Mad Dog still live there? Man, that's weird. I lived there for years. Lotta years. It was pretty much home, but then I went away for a couple of years, and when I came back the whole usenet thing seemed to have been replaced by forums, which mostly sucked. This one ain't bad, and a lot of the old r.c crew is here so I just assumed the old homestead had been paved over or something.

Well so far this is pretty civilized as Taco-welcomes-to-newcomers go. When Paulina first posted I thought uh-oh. But then she's survived just fine for years on the wreck, no stranger to online oddities at all.

I sometimes miss the place, it had its own charms. For one thing the absence of pictures meant that TRs were all text, and a fair number of them were carefully written not just typed. Resulted in some classics.

cheers!

Have you noticed the internet is entirely different from third grade? In third grade the guys flinging spitballs and stealing inkwells were all sitting in the back row. On the internet they are all in the front row.

For a short time I tried to use the wrec, but I could not find a second row. This place has quite few rows and a lot of really good stuff, toward the back.

Don't know about that. I think you make the rows you want to hang out in (unlike in third grade).

I was referring to my not gainfully employed status.

Actually, I'm not entirely sure if I'm supposed to somehow sign up in advance for the cleaning duty, the camping, the slideshows, the whatever else is going on, or if I can just come to the right place around the right time and find something to do and some people to hang out with. Sounds like the latter, hopefully...

Ah yes... the old no money cop-out.

Let's see... which Sushi event might be be talking about here....

Yosemite
JTree
Cochise

I'm only running three in the next four months so the confusion is palatable on my end.

There will be a BBQ along with sushi on Tuesday the 25th in Yosemite (Yellow Pines). Scrape your change together and waddle on up to the sushibar. Or just bring a side of bear meat and grill it. (Poor #46 won't approve).

Hey, Paulina,

My ability to get away is pretty poor right now, but if you're passing through Berkeley and want a meal or a place to crash let me know. It would be nice to meet you.

Tin foil? Aluminum? Ron Paul? Vote? Huh? ;-P

I'll hang around and learn your ways...

Melissa, it would be great to meet you too. Thank you!

I remember Paulina from Rec.climbing. You don't have to warn her about Trolls and Flames. Rec.climbing was no kindergarten. They invented that stuff. Even Juan is better behaved here than he was there.

Please have a look at the FaceLift threads, referred to above. You could also look at www.yosemiteclimbing.org for current event details.

Most things about the FaceLift are free, and fairly informal. The exceptions:
1. If you want free camping, you have to contact Ken NOW, and see if there's any left. (Volunteering = free camping.)
2. If you want sushi on September 25th, arrange it with nature (Doug), before or there. $30. Otherwise, simply show up, bring something to BBQ and typical food and drink things, and away we go.
3. All evening social events are free - to volunteers. Except Friday and Saturday, where a $10 donation is requested.
4. Dinner and draw prizes (Sunday) also free - to volunteers. You get one draw prize ticket for each day you help.

You sign up each morning at the Visitor Centre - 9:00 AM. (Bring a friend!) There's no shortage of things to do. If you want to help some days, but not all five, that can probably be worked out. Or perhaps part of each day. The volunteer work need not be onerous, and can even involve hiking or climbing for a day, but doing a thorough cleanup of the area while there.

Karl, DMT, others from olden r.c. days: hi!

Chez: 'Fraid not. Unless there's serious blackouts in my memory. I'm from the East side (as in, Boston).

Mighty Hiker: Thanks for the info! I checked out the threads and emailed Ken.

My plane to SFO is tomorrow morning. Hurray!
