I was just wondering what the scoop is on that Truckee fire.
Did it impact the Summit? I think its out now...but I'm too far away to see it.

Maybe Maysho can fill me/us in...

By the way what ever happened to that iltalvega(sp?) bike I sold you years ago? Nita told me this summer you mentioned it in passing...remember?

Hey Chris! What are you up to in India?

The Truckee fire started right above highway 80 at the Donner Lake interchange which is at the mouth of Negro Canyon halfway up the grade between Truckee and the Summit. It burned straight up the hill and reached the crest before it was contained. This brought it right up to the big fire break that rings Tahoe Donner. One of my climbing partners, John Scott, (known for many hard contributions at Jailhouse, Sonora Pass, etc.) lives right up there and he and his wife and two kids had to evacuate the area for about 3 hours. Early word is that it started from some kind of power line problem. Climbing at Donner Summit that evening gave us a clear view of the fire and the wild airdrop action. The potential of Tahoe Donner (6000 + homes) burning was scary, though that area is better protected by aggresive fuel reduction efforts than most neighborhoods around here. The whole Sierra is a giant bone dry tinderbox this year, and only the complete dearth of thunderstorms has saved us so far, (loudly knocking on the wooden side of my head as I write this!)

About that classic bike! I enjoyed many miles of good riding way back then, the bike then reposed under the house in El Portal until the house burned up in 1998, a fire that also started from an electrical wire problem, everyone was ok and Lynda was able to rebuild in the same spot with a great home, bigger and better.

Look me up when you come back!

Maysho, glad to hear that no houses burned. I was running along 50 by El Dorado beach in south lake when I saw the smoke... looked like a pretty big fire from down this way! Lets all knock on wood that this giant tinderbox stays fire free for the rest of the season, and then we get enough snow to make up for last winter :)

Thanks for the info P.
Glad too that it was contained before all hell broke loose.
I certainly feel for all those S. Tahoe folks that underwent the tragic circumstances of this summer's fire.

Will for sure look you up upon my return.

India is hot, humid, and alive.

ps. keep poking that stick at 'em Crowley, I always like a good chuckle...
