I was making my approach to climb East Wall. I set my gear down on that big rock to the left of where the smaller trail that leads to the base of the wall. After answering a call (nature not cell) I came back, put my harness back on and reached for my pretty pink Beal 10.2mm Golden Dry 60m rope. I felt somthing colder in my hand than the rope was supposed to be. Jumped back and fell right on my ass. A 4 to 5 foot rattler was all coiled up and gettin warmed up by the sun on my rope. No sh#t there I was too scared to get my rope back and a big bruise from that locker that I had sat down on. I had no choice but proceed to the base of the wall and tell my girlfriend what happened. She laughed and proceeded to free solo the route. I sat at the bottom of the route and cried because I was now down both a rope and a girlfriend.

I really did leave a rope in the LL campground parking lot on Mon July 30. It is blue, 60m, Maxxum or Mammot, and it was on a post next to a tree to keep it off the ground.
