On Sunday, July 22nd, Brutus of Wyde and Nurse Rachet were married by a wild eyed rouge preacher in a unconventional ceremony in secret high country location just outside Yosemite. Each had one lovely daughter as a witness.

It was beautiful but sadly, the stealth ceremony meant that there was no wild reception afterwards where intoxicated friends toasted appreciations and embarrassing stories for the crowd. That's what this thread is for.

These are two of the finest humans I know. Some folks act cool but the more you know them, the more their selfishness and human weakness becomes obvious. That's normal and I accept it. For Bruce and Em though, the more I know them, the greater they are and the more I admire them. I'll post more in a week or so.

Have at em! Toasts to Brutus and Em!

Peace

Congrats to the two of you! I love marriage (even though I've tried it now three times). It's not a job--it's an adventure.

Blessings.

I met them both for the first time at SushiFest IV:XX. I could tell by their collective presense that they are two people who are meant to be together. This is wonderful news and I could not be happier for them. They helped me a great deal rolling and doing other kitchen chores - it is probably impossible to thank them enough for that help. Em said something to me right before we parted ways - something I'll never forget. Does anyone know how to reach her? There's someone special I'd like her to meet. I hope one day to rope up with Bruce (maybe at Burning Ranger SushiFest?).

Congrats to both of them. And thank you Karl for this thread.

Cheers,

Doug

This might also be a good place to link or paste old Brutus or Em trip reports. They had quite a time in many places! Brutus and Em do the Muir. Brutus does Tempest. Brutus and Dingus go wild everywhere.

Here's a couple initial shot of the wedding

This is round one of the reception, with the preacher man doubling as musician on a plastic didgeridoo. Brutus showed us his tongue whistling and attempts at blowing bottles were made once they were emptied.

This is during the Ceremony while the Daughters were reading wise stuff. At the behest of the cult leader, the couple exchanged belay devices to symbolize their protection and reliance on each other, and were gifted a nut tool which would act as a native american style talking stick for when communication needed to be measured and mindful.

More later, I don't want to give anything away, like how the three rings of marraige relate to the two aspects of climbing.

Peace

Thanks to everyone who has contributed to this thread.

A special thanks to Karl Baba who went the extra mile to actually get ordained so he could legally hitch us, as well as playing the part of wedding photographer and reception band.

Thanks also to Mr. Dodrill, and Old5ten, Clint, and Most especially to Dingus who contributed photos (some very unexpected) of our many adventures together.

Dingus, You are my Best Man.

Thanks again. Hope to see many of you at the Yosemite Facelift.

But what about the embarassing stories?

I organized an Alpine Club of Canada trip to Tuolumne last fall. Brutus signed up. So there we are, the Canadian contingent, waiting at the campground for our Californian teammate to arrive. When Brutus drives up he sends up a cloud of dust as his car skids to a halt. He bounds out of his old car, looks around at us all with that wild-eyed look, hair (what's left of it) springing up in odd directions, and asks, "Who wants a beer?". Two of our party were so taken aback they packed up their car and drove straight back to Canada.

Day 3: Brutus has single-handedly consumed more beer over the last 3 days than the rest of our entire party of 6. At 8am I get out of my tent and say good morning. Brutus asks, "Want a beer?". I reply, "Bruce, how can you drink beer first thing in the morning?". He responds, "How can you NOT drink beer first thing in the morning?"

Has Brutus been a climbing mentor for anyone else? His advice on strategy for climbing the Steck-Salathe and Finger of Fate were spot on.

Bruce and Em, you guys rock. Congratulations!

Nancy and I look forward to seeing you very soon.

Doug
