Yosemite Climbing Association

Fourth Annual
Yosemite Facelift

September 26 – September 30, 2006

Help us clean up Yosemite National Park.

For five days in this fall, the Yosemite Climbing Association will once again sponsor a Yosemite-wide cleanup to benefit the park and help restore high use areas after the busy summer season. Our goal is an intensive cleaning of all areas in the park before the winter rains set in. This will include roadways, river corridors, trails, parking areas, campgrounds, climbing areas, and lodging areas.

Meet us in front of the Visitor Center between 8:00 am to 5:00 pm from September 26th to September 30th to pick up trash bags and litter sticks. Bring your trash back for weighing and sorting by 5:00 p.m. Signing in and weighing your collection at the end of the day helps us track our progress, reach the most area and create revenue for the Park.

Show up early for assignments, or if you already have a plan for the day, sign up, grab a trash bag, and spend some time cleaning the area you are enjoying. If you can’t be there at 8:00 am, show up when you can, every little bit will help.

Each participant receives a raffle ticket for every day they participate. Hundreds of prizes will be raffled off, some daily and the rest at a special reception for all participants on September 30th. The park entrance fee will be waived for Facelift participants. Free camping is available on a first come first served basis. Contact us at YCA@inreach.com to make camping arrangements once you know the dates you can participate.

We hope to see you there! If you cannot participate, but would still like to help, please consider a tax deductible donation to Yosemite Climbing Association at P.O. Box 89, Yosemite, CA 95389. Your gift will help us offset the cost of the event.

Last year, 1,157 participants last year donated 9,256 hours, collected over 25,000 pounds of trash, and was valued at $166,970.00 by the National Park Service. Thanks to this effort, the NPS presented Ken Yager with the Yosemite Award. Help us make the YCA Yosemite Facelift an even greater success this year.

For questions and more information, please contact Ken Yager at YCA@inreach.com or visit our website at www.yosemiteclimbing.org.

There is camping available in Yellow Pines and in Camp 4. If you can and want to commit, send me an email with your name, the dates you need camping, for how many people, and which campground you would prefer and I will reserve it for you. September 26-30 is available.

On September 25 the evening prior to the cleanup, I have reserved the whole Yellow Pines Campground for some type of ST food gathering. Mighty Hiker is helping to organize this. Any thoughts on how to make this work? We need to know how many will show up.

Thanks,
Ken

P.S. There will be evening programs on the 26th through the 30th. I will post that information once I have all the details worked out.
