Stumbled across this and thought some of you might like it!
http://www.cnn.com/2007/US/03/16/alaska.land.ap/index.html
I used to live up in Ninilchik, near Homer and would go back to AK in a heartbeat. Reminds me a lot of growing up in Maine, but the wife can't stand the cold or the seclusion.
Good luck to those who try!

I spent 10 years in Fairbanks Alaska, free is overpriced.
The last time I was up there was for a 9 day visit over christmas. The HIGH the whole time I was there was -40, which was according to the airport sign on the way out, which is notorious for reading warmer than the rest of the city.

I would be really tempted if this land-grab was in Anchorage...but the INTERIOR??? Are you mad?
70 degrees below 0 will suck your lungs right out of you! Fairbanks and places close to this land-grab were always registering 70 below when I was living up there.
And trust me, there were several times when Anchorage was 10 below and I thought death would be preferable. Let the Eskimos and other Alaskan Natives keep the land--they have a genetic dispostion that allows them to run around in t-shirts at 10 below and smile!

What's your temp up there right now, mt10910?
(Don't get me wrong--Alaska was the most beautiful place I've ever lived. I truly loved it while I was there. But I like feeling my fingers...if you know what I mean.)
Ciao!
