Ron has been banned and wanted to give this farewell

-------------------------------------------------------

Its true; I posted a photo of a phallic potato and was de-activated.

Recently I started a thread posting a photo of "Braun Books" next to "Poseur's Place" and it was locked (a complaint from the duck??).

This site is morphing from SuperTopo to SnowflakeTorpor, and as I said near 10,000 posts ago this place is a monumental waste of time.
I should have heeded myself, but interacting with some was fun.
My best to most. Won't be back without a contrite invitation.
Don't know RJ or if he's put up any good routes, but I hope he enjoys the irony of summarily banning me for, ....

yes,

a photo of a dick-tater.:)

WBraun AKA "the duck" still has 100 photos that he doesn't own. At least one of which I own. Will he get De-Activated?

If you put your sh#t on the internet and Bluering, or whomever, turns into a dickmeme it's your own fault.

Guess you've never met him. I've run into him a few times at Todd Gordon's. Nice guy and would give you the shirt off his back. A great supporter of Layton, Jeff and Kyle, amongst others.

Hope he finds the wide.

Veterans deserve it.

While I support major cutbacks in hardware purchases, the troops should get our support.
My favorite organization to support is Paralyzed Veterans of America. I can't think of any more deserving.

With the taco inquisition in full swing, I can see why the knights of the castrati targeted the toker.

I admire his work to help folks, even if I didn't get his "#of people who have died on my climbs" rating scale.

Seems odd, reconciling the two.

Love him or hate him, he was the real deal. I think that losing him, and people like him, actually really is a great loss for SuperTopo. People like him, DMT, and Tarbuster is what kept a lot of us coming back here. Well, of these three, Tarbuster is still here, but for how long?

And make no mistake, Toker Villain wasn't kicked out, he left. It was a calculated act.

Does anyone else remember the rumor from back in the 80's that Ron Olevsky had died? I can't recall where I'd heard that, I think the suggestion was that it had been suicide. It was a few years before I learned that it was all some malicious prank, and in the pre-internet world it was both a difficult thing to pull off and slow to refute. Ron was already a known quantity in those days of print and evidently controversial enough to draw heat back then. Presumably for his HAFWEN constructive pin scarring program in desert sandstone, though who knows, it may have been purely personal. I doubt this Supertopo little death is all that big a deal.

OLevsky has probably always inspired a mixed bag of responses from people, and long before the Internet. He's been a key figure in our community forever, or for most of forever.

At my medical benefit auction in 2009, he got right out front during the bidding and was a major force in pushing up values.

Thank you, Granite Climber. While I probably won't be generating much in the way of content here, I'll continue to interact with all of the goodhearted, intelligent, and interesting people who make this community what it is, until the lights go out.

Banned because of a potato photo. I suppose there's some cosmic symmetry in that, but I can't discern how, exactly. The consequence doesn't seem to match the action.

He liked The New Riders of The Purple Sage.

The New Riders of the Purple Sage recorded "Henry," whose chorus was our theme song when driving to and from Yosemite Valley in my Berkeley days:

"Now he's rollin' down the mountain goin' fast, fast fast.

And if he blows it, this one's gonna be his last.

Goin' to Acapulco, turn the golden key.

Henry keep your brakes on for this corner if you please!"

Saw those guys play in my hometown twice, smoked one with Buddy Cage.

The pedal steel slide in Henry was played by Jerry Garcia.

Try as I updated.

I tried a lot of Java settings in attempt to break this picture link script on my computer.

Only by disabling Java from within Chrome could I make the script stop working.

So check it.

I'm sure there are other ways to break it as well.

Name that shoe!

Can't do it. Closest I can come is the La Sportiva Cliff? But it's not quite right, methinks.

The Honnold spoof is pretty darn good. I liked the GarageBand positioned on the summit, but it sort of reeked of too many financial resources.

He doesn't look as fast as Danno, though.

How is fragility/portability being assessed here?

I do want to answer that, because Nut Again! explained it to me even better than I may have on my own.
I'll get back to you in a bit, after I prep my answer as clearly as I can. Watch this space, please?

After all, we could of course start a separate thread, but that would be way too sane & formalized and stuff.

Gang, the "hack" is pretty easy in the scheme of things. JLP deserves his own appreciation thread on supertopo for this alone.

1. Install the browser plugin "Custom Javascript for Websites 2":
https://chrome.google.com/webstore/detail/custom-javascript-for-web/ddbjnfjiigjmcpcpkmhogomapikjbjdk?hl=en

2. Left-click on the 'cfs' icon in upper right to pop open a little window where you type in the "hack" code

3. Type in the code EXACTLY as shared in the picture from JLP. That's it!

It is a remote possibility that you have javascript disabled in your browser, but very unlikely. You would not have any normal modern websites working properly or nicely if you did that.

Note, the only reason you can't copy/paste in JLP's code is because it has some symbols that get mangled by forum text processing. So you have to look at his image and retype it yourself.

There is no magical scary stuff in that code... only "hacking" in the simplest sense of implementing a work-around. It takes all the supertopo content, and whenever it recognizes those links to external pictures, just replaces that HTML with the code to view the image inline rather than linking to it. For those who understand a little HTML, it just changes an "a href=" to an "img src=" type of html tag.

I understand the fear/stigma associated with the idea of a "hack" but really this is like using a little bailing wire to hold your muffler on your car.

For a while I had a browser plug-in that allowed me to see all of photobucket stuff from everyone instead of that annoying paywall notice.

Before I start archiving again, I'd like to find another one that gets rid of the photobucket watermark.

Wasn't his dad a renowned concert violinist?

Yeah, for sure:
https://www.nytimes.com/1985/05/28/arts/julian-olevsky-is-dead-at-59-was-a-violinist-and-teacher.html
Julian Olevsky, a violinist who began his professional career at age 10, died of a heart attack Saturday at his home in Amherst, Mass. He was 59 years old ... He is survived by his wife, Estela Kersenbaum Olevsky, a concert pianist and a professor at the university in Amherst; a daughter, Diane, of Amherst, and two children by a previous marriage, Roxane Olevsky-Abercrombie, of Amherst, and Ronald Olevsky, of La Verkin, Utah; his mother, Augustina Schachmeister Olevsky, of Amherst, and two grandchildren.

Thanks for chiming in, Nut Again! Ha ha. I should have called it a browser tweak.
