11 years here has been a wonderful roller coaster! I love the crazy campfire and have mentioned just why on so many threads over so many years. This may sound over the top, but I've read so many books on WWII when the bad guys came in and people and culture disappeared. PLEASE, no offense owners of this site, but I can't think of another good simile......just pare it down about 90%.

So if you all disappear here please keep in touch with lynnie on FB.

Some might say, get a life fool, but I do have a great one! I just want to keep you all a part of it. Hugs.

Lynne, you discovered this place 11 years ago, at a time when you needed something that you could not find.

But you found it here, and have drawn strength from it ever since.

Some of us fell off the path of normal a long, long time before you did. Like you, many of us didn't really know what was wrong, or where to go to find what was missing. But we found it in the climbing community, and, for the last three decades, part of that community has been on the web.

This forum, and rec.climbing before it, was as close to "home" as many of us had ever been. And even those of us who had some kind of real-life home/family/community still needed what we found online.

It now looks like this forum is going to go the way of rec.climbing, and that is a sad thing.

But, given the vast expansion of the web, we will probably be able to find new online communities and, who knows, maybe find many of our old ST friends there.

All the best.

All things pass, you of all know that, time heals, you of all know that and we will ALL still be friends when this phase moves on. You of all know that. So you, me and Kelly gotta get together!
Peace my great friend

hey there say, lynne and all...

wow, i just wish and hope that folks stay...

you all share words... words (even without the images) can still
say so very much... and, we can imagine the trips, and
hopefully folks can share links...

i know, it is not like having a real chat, where we can 'pull out the magazines and books' and show all the neat pictures that we have seen, that
match everything that we want to say... but, i reckon, it is like:

talking by 'out fashioned' phone... we run to the books case, and grab the book and 'explain the photo' as best we can...

okay, okay, i know-- i am a bit, old fashioned, and different, that way...
but--

i try to find the light and best that i can in stuff...
i hope to still hear your WONDERFUL CLIMBS...
ADVENTURES... and, hope to still SHARE all your hopes and dreams...

and, hear health update and hopes that you and your families, will
be healthy and safe...

we really still CAN have a 'taco' here...
and, a quilt... not the same-- but,
it can still whether the storms of the world...

i've seen so many amazing things here, in the realm of
helping, others...

hearing hoping... :)

I’ve participated in a few forums over the years for my various passions and hobbies. Over active and arbitrary moderation has always been the death nell of a forum. It’s a shame that this forum has gathered the disparate climbing clan from various locals and eras and looks to be be facing a ground fall.

It’s not just the administratiors...the internet seems to breed weirdness. It is a repository for people to freely express their thoughts under an avatar cover and that doesn't necessarily draw out the best in people.
I don't think there is a place for a forum that is solely climbing oriented. The only threads that have any longevity are the ones where people can pontificate their “views” ad nauseam.

Lynne, Although we have never met in person, we do share a common love of the deserts of Utah, of climbing, of boating. I have very much enjoyed your postings and your comments on some of my TRs. I, too, have found a digital community here that will sorely be missed. Might have to take the advice to move to the over 50 crowd on mountain project.

Since we are in a boat that is taking on water here, I might as well out myownself. My avatar of "Nick Danger" originated in the early 1970's when I used that name to sign in on trailhead registers and summit registers, such as they existed in Colorado and Wyoming. Nick may be my nom de plume, but Bob Dickerson is my given name.

I am going to miss all of you folks. Lynn, you have been an especially positive presence here, and I have very much appreciated that positive energy.

Savage, friend request confirmed. Great idea to start now getting connected.

Happiegrrrl2, fun times we had that day climbing with the Gordobots in Josh...Todd, Tucker, Wendell etc. As well as the fun time fooling around with John Stannard as we put up my tent in C-4. I was new and needed all the help I could get. Pro would never have connected but for ST.

AND, pardon my saying so, but I never would have found out about Facelift if it hadn't been for ST. I wouldn't have played one good harmonica riff (in 10 years, not bad) never would have met NITA and ANDY and all my other great compadres....but I'm secure.

It's just those coming up behind me. It's those that actually find their Dad on ST, yes that happened here. It's the many condolences sent out to grieving loved ones. Shoot, that's how I found this place.

Do you remember that for many years Jerry Dodrill had a remembrance thread here where all our lost tribe members were listed. Listen to me, talking about the tribe. I never knew what the tribe was until a few years back.

For the record if I disappear it is not voluntary. It will be because I got nuked for calling out RJ in a blatant lie for claiming that Tad left voluntarily.

From an email conversation I just had with Tad.

Hi Nick, you don’t have to call him out or make a big scene of it.
If you want, your call, you can post this for me;

“I didn’t request my posts be removed , I was deactivated and my posts purged before I had a chance to reply to his last post directed at me which he has since deleted.”

If you lied about Tad how do we know that you did not lie about DMT? how can we trust anything you say? How does this not affect your credibility for whatever climbs that you have claimed to have done in whatever style they were reported as????

Not sure what to think about what's been going down here this week. Looking back at my time on this site - I realize how many of my meaningful experiences and relationships over the last decade were made possible through ST . It's my hope that when the dust settles, the site will continue in some form and a lot of us will still be around.

People having hissy fits , overreacting and deleting their accounts makes me sad- I wish they could just walk away and stop posting without scorching the earth and destroying the continuity of many of the threads forever. I talked my husband off that ledge and months later- he's relieved he didn't pull that trigger. It's selfish IMPO.

As a side story- BITD... rockclimbing.Com underwent a similar transformation. They changed owners- photo hosting disappeared overnight (eliminating every photo that wasn't a click-link) and there were some other changes that weren't so great initially pissing a bunch of people off. There was a mass exodus here to ST ( Me, Happi, DMT, Dirtineye, and Cosmic moved here at that time- just to name just a few i can remember off the top of my head) That site persevered and many of the friendships continued, so I dont despair.

Peace To everyone

Yeah, pretty much the way I read it after thinking about it. CMac has a few financial endeavors that are more financially profitable. To let us run rampant on the forum at risk of his other economic interests does not make sense. If he has been threatened with law suits based on the forum, he has to keep silent pending the results of litigation.
