hey there, say...

i have a few, but, for now...
since so many are listed...

i would add her... i read of some of what she did,
for children in africa, as to food...

if that is really so, which it seems to be...
good for her... ??

audry hepburn...

harriet tubman...

and, sadly, i do not know who she is...
she was a mom, during a mudslide, after an earthquake in
(either mexico, or south america-- too long to remember back) ...
and, as she sunk into a deep hole of mud, she held her baby up
for someone to grab and save its life, but, she sunk too far
under and died, in the process... :(

knowing at least, that her baby was alive... and, hopefully
in good hands... :(

edit:
awwwww, say, thebravecowboy... as to your quote:

Sophie Germain (An amazing story of the passionate amateur).

Sofia Kovalevskaya

Emmy Noether

The Wiki articles on these people resonate with the difficulties they faced as women trying to participate in an activity defined as "a man's world". In any case, assistance from supportive males was an important factor in their success.

For hard, local climbers we have the "all-arounder" (alpine, sport, trad, boulder) known as "La Hormiga":

Here she is climbing on some local, Balcarce rock (is that some "toxic masculinity" we see creeping into the video?):

Mouse, my mother was the one who told me to pay homage to Mitochondrial Eve. She also told me that while the Eve story in the Old Testament was a silly fable it did make the valid point concerning the gullibility of men when their thinking is clouded by that organ directly below their belt buckle.

Hey Neebee, thanks for thinking of me, and I am glad that you caught the tongue-in-cheek tone of my comment. Don't rush to get that painting completed: this is such a busy time of year and so many folks just need basic love and human caring whereas A painting is just icing on my cake. Cheers!

Wiki: I like Joan of Arc best of all my books; and it is the best; I know it perfectly well. And besides, it furnished me seven times the pleasure afforded me by any of the others; twelve years of preparation, and two years of writing. The others needed no preparation and got none.

George Bernard Shaw's classic play about Saint Joan of Arc was first performed in 1923 in New York and is considered one of his greatest achievements. Due in large part to the theatrical success of Saint Joan, Shaw was awarded the Nobel Prize for literature in 1925.

I admired the woman who taught the course on "Drama as Literature" at Monterey Peninsula College.
We students drove to SF to watch it performed at the A.C.T.
It was magnificent. The instructor, whose name is erased from my mem, got through to me.

Maria Gaetana Agnesi (Italian pronunciation: [maˈriːa ɡaeˈtaːna aɲˈɲeːzi; -ɛːzi];[1] 16 May 1718 – 9 January 1799) was an Italian mathematician, philosopher, theologian, and humanitarian. She was the first woman to write a mathematics handbook and the first woman appointed as a mathematics professor at a university.[2]

All the lists above pretty much say it. I'd add blues singer Barbara Dane, and delete Jane Fonda, but that's just me.

But as it happens, I kind of have a crush on my wife...

We went up to Spokane a few months ago as she was competing in the USA Power Lifting Association Nationals. She busted three national records in her class. Bench, deadlift, and total. The bench record cut down through two age groups below her. Gotta be a wake up call for the 40 year olds in the 155/160 weight class.

How many 62 year old women do you know who bench press 207, dead lift 335, and squat 248? My strategy for safety? I can outrun her :-)

PS "RAW" means no assisting outer wear other than a belt.

PS #2 I was up front. The place was packed.

during my EMT days in red lodge montana,
we got dispatched to the scene of a lightning strike at a lake not very far out of town.
there was handicap access which on this occasion was attended by a boy scout group including the son
of our ambulance administrator/trainer who was behind the wheel as we rolled, lights and sirens.

there was a metal hand rail on the shoreline and our information indicated multiple casualties.

it was pedal to the metal up a steady grade in a diesel rig to the lake and while en route
an oncoming vehicle issued an ambiguous headlight signal. as it carried on by, laying on
some stuff in the bed of the pickup, under a crouching adult, we recognized her son.

one slight drop in RPM on the tach, an instant maybe two, of maternal instinct,
a moment in the mirror, and then a profound resumption of throttle and duty.

we were knee deep in it up by the railings. notably, it all went
as smooth and professionally as it should have, but damn!

skipping ahead: the kid made a good recovery. at least near term, reason to be hopeful.
i guess i never heard about the kids we transported to billings. sad, but not unusual

Two years after her climbing accident, Lisa Randall shakes her head, still not quite able to accept the reality of the laws of physics. "It just shouldn't have happened," she says. "I was climbing safely, the conditions were good, the route wasn't that difficult and I was properly roped up. But somehow, I managed to fall and smash my heel."
