Here's an interesting--although grim--story about the first murder on the Appalachian Trail back in the early 70's. I guess seven total since then. I was wondering if there have been any murders on the PCT. Most of it is so remote that it would be a lot of work for some psycho to go out and do his evil work. With the linked story, I was especially impressed by the woman who survived. What a great lady.

Yeah, Zardoz, I was freaked out by that, too. The dude was so casual and random and clearly without any remorse--classic psychopath. Damn.

"Thru- hikers mixing with Appalachian- Americans. Some with a propensity towards mayhem."
I believe it says the killer was born and raised in Detroit. Not really Appalachia.
