He wears mostly army-colored items: olive-drab green, tan, and camouflage.
Last time I looked through a high powered scope at a ledged out dude years ago wearing clothing like this I could NOT see him at all looking right at him.
They said keep looking at him.
Suddenly I saw his eyeballs and literally jumped back from the scope ..... lol.

Tenczar's family says he wanted to backpack from Robinson Creek to Crown Lake, Matterhorn Canyon, Smedberg Lake, Seavey Pass and Peeler Lake. His brother says authorities found Tenczar's car parked near Robinson Creek with his phone and keys inside. Crews have followed the trails he planned to hike.
"They have said they didn't find any, any articles of clothing or anything like that of his up there. Tut they have K-9 units that have tracked him along the trail," said Matt.

If you are hiking alone, especially in that area where a lot of the terrain is not heavily forested, wearing bright, orange colored clothing that really stands out would make more sense than wearing camos. For an aerial search, it could make a difference between being seen and being passed over while injured.
Based upon the list of lakes, it sounds to me like he really was on a fishing expedition.

Maybe the keys that were found in the car were a whole keyring full, including car and house keys, and he either had with him (or concealed near the car) a single car key or he had some other way of getting into the car.

According to the press release, Scott Tenczar set out from the Bridgeport Ranger Station in Humboldt-Toiyabe National Forest, where he planned to backpack from Robinson Creek to Crown Lake. Scott Tenczar then planned to travel into the Matterhorn Canyon, which is south of Slide Mountain and through where part of the Pacific Crest Trail traverses.
From there, he planned to go to Smedberg Lake, just north of Volunteer Peak and along the Pacific Crest Trail to Seavey Pass, which is at an elevation of 9,058 feet and located 1.6 miles northeast of Piute Mountain. From there, Scott Tenczar planned to return to the Humboldt-Toiyabe National Forest at Peeler Lake before completing his trip around Aug. 8, his brother said.

This is sad. Has me re-thinking getting a SPOT type device; up until now thought it was pointless tech for noobs. If an ex Army ranger can go missing for days, what chance does an old guy like me have?

Yeah- I can see someone leaving keys behind to cut weight. He left a big itinerary to search. I do hope he comes crawling out of the mountains with a tale to tell.
Sometimes peeps don’t want to be found. In the big picture it’s all good.
Uh- WTF?^ kinda a bizarre post- there's zero evidence he disappeared himself on purpose and its definitely NOT "all good".

I have the Garmin Explorer and love it. Loaning it to my daughter who will be hiking the JMT in about a week.

Walk up to his sister and brother and say, "Yeah, he's dead and gone forever. But, hey, it's all good!" Christ on cracker that's heartless. That's what you say after losing a soccer match or having to bail--safely--from a route. Jeez.

Hoping for the best. There are a 'few' stories of those who have crawled out after some time. I was working a SAR for a lone fisherman a few years ago and he surfaced with a leg fracture with the bone sticking out! I think he was out there 6 days. Crawled down to a lake after a long ridge traverse eating snow and moss. I heard his voice on the radio right after he was found and it sounded pretty strong still. If this guy was in good shape and could catch fish, he might survive long enough to find his way or be found. Lots of trained folks looking I'm sure, Good Luck to all....

BAd I don't know who made the first quoted post since it doesn't seem to be there any more, but I took it as to mean him disappearing himself not offing himself without a trace. This would represent gone forever but not dead and gone forever. And maybe not even gone forever. But I could see it both ways. Remember, what we envision when we read something invariably has a huge amount of our own personal bias just as the same story paraphrased by two people often seems like two different stories.

Evidently I need to explain. English teacher flunks his reading comprehension exam :).
I didn't say that that "All good" comment- some dude from Hawaii did. He deleted it- which may explain the confusion. Forgot to post his name and it's in a quote box.
I felt it was insensitive to insinuate that he had willingly(?) disappeared and it's definitely not a "good" situation for friends family and the search teams now involved.\

Edit to add: Just hope he's found. Article says he left his phone in the car as well. I don't backpack- Is that normal to leave your cell behind for long backcountry trips because the battery might die? - or does it hint that he was only out for a day hike?

It is not clear.
In full context it it is not difficult to figure out what Bad and JTM meant. Yesterday I read Bad’s post prior to reading JTM’s post. I thought I knew what was going on, then confirmed it by reading JTM’s quote of the offending statement, and then I thought to myself how Bad could have made his meaning clearer.
It would have been clearer if Bad had said, “I agree with Justthemaid . . .” or even, “I’m with JTM . . .” instead of, “With Justthemaid on the post above. Seriously, WTF? "all good"?”
On its own it is unclear if he is saying, “I’m with her on this” or “WTF is with her post above?”

Yosemite employee John Cogdell has been found, but the update on Yoesemite National Park's Facebook (quoted below) sounds ominous, and another Park Service employee has offered condolences to his family.
UPDATE: He has been found. No further details available pending investigation.
Scott Tenczar remains missing.

It is not clear.
It was completely clear before the original (offensive) post was deleted. But it was confusing afterwards.
Back to the original purpose of this thread, which is to spread the word about this missing hiker, especially to anyone who may have been in the area in that time frame or since.

Agree w/Reilly on the ACR PLB.
Recently I got a Garmin Mini inReach. I always found the larger inReaches too heavy, but the mini is 3.5oz. Unlike the ACR, it needs a subscription plan, so I have the minimal for $12/mo (annual subscription), which comes with 10 msgs/month, unlimited preset messages. Its very handy for long distance communication in areas w/out cell reception, and invaluable in an emergency to be able to explain the situation vs. an "SOS" w/no details.
inReach uses the Iridium satellite network, which is much more reliable and ubiquitous than Globalstar used by SPOT.

My original post which I deleted since it could be interpreted to be negative by anyone whom sees the world partly cloudy, half full, or works for the union.
Scott was doing what he loved & was in an environment of his choice on his terms. Let’s all hope we get that opportunity.

Again, condolences to family and friends. In no way is this "all good" Rg. It's a damn shame. I was merely making a practical observation, which, as you can seem, turned out to be correct. Anyone that long over due almost never makes it back. But, hey, at least when a good friend was diagnosed with stage 4 cancer, I didn't say, Hey, it's all good.
