I just accepted a new job in West Covina, and now rent an apartment in Covina California. Hoping that some of you might know some climbers who live in the immediate area, maybe some bouldering or local crags for the evening after work.

Any help is welcomed. PM, reply or email.

Also looking for meet up with some locals working on various access issues in the area. Something to get involved now that I am in the area.

Cheers,
Eman

It's been a long time since I've been in that area. To my knowledge there is no nearby climbing or bouldering. Closest thing was Rubidoux. Thirty years ago it was doable in an evening. With the sprawl and traffic that has become SoCal, it would work if you can spend an afternoon and evening but not an "after 5". YMMV.

Don't know if there are any gyms in the area.

There are quite a few climbers in that area.

Yeah, you moved to the wrong valley. SFV at least has Stoney and is close to Purple Stones and Malibu, etc.

Best bet to meet good locals would be go to Rubidoux on a Saturday or Sunday. Even better, hit Humber Park outside of Idylwild very early in the morning on a weekend. By early, we're talking 6 AM to get a parking spot. YMMV.

For inspiration:

Tobin Sorenson grew up there and his grave is in the Covina Forest Lawn cemetery.

Damn. Wish I would have know that when I was in SoCal. Never met him but was quite enamored with his exploits, as with the rest of the Stonemasters. Would have been nice to place some flowers there.

My condolences to you and your immediate family. Your parents must be griefstricken. You are in my thoughts and prayers.

It could be worse. It could have been, Omaha. :-(

Covina could make even Bullhead City look better.

Yikes...what people have to endure to make ends meet. Pretty much anywhere in the LA basin seems pretty horrific.
