The world is a wild place
Wanting to know, order and predict
I forgot
Tamed the dragon, walked him on a chain
And what of the California grizzly
I became the creature I feared most
Lost my soul to walls, machines and flashing lights on a screen
And faith in the world that gave me birth
But what of those memories deeper than the womb
If wind, of water, of rocks and sunshine
Bringing life to creatures big and small
And plants that clean the air we breathe
I walked on two feet and clambored on four
To the sounds of wind, of birds and a creek babbling through the woods
To the silence of a desert morn
Looked into the eyes of a cougar
And heart of a bear
And I remembered, with faith and soul
That the world is a wild place.

If you’re arachnophobic, I hate to tell you this, but spiders can fly.

Don’t panic—it’s pretty much only the extra-tiny ones that take flight, which is a behavior called ballooning. By releasing a bouquet of streamer-like silks, baby spiders ascend into the air to find new homes after hatching, and adult spiders do so to get around more easily and find mates and new food sources. Some have even crossed entire oceans using these silk parachutes to stay aloft on wind currents.

A journey taken or a journey one hopes for? The copulating ladybugs was a nice touch :)

Stylistically, I'm channeling a bit of Napoleon Dynamite here.

Nice!

The world is great except for the stuff I don’t like. Same goes for other people. As the Dothraki say, “It is known.”

Cheers knowers!

Listening to ducks splash as the tide goes down. Soon the other critters will venture onto the mudflats as they get exposed, and all with vie for a morsel of clam.

Fun posts so far! Glad folks enjoyed it and that wild places are showing up here. Contactor - Ligers, yay and good on the Needles...just got back from Sherman Pass. Jeff - remembering Coz and his untamed spirit. Fritz - Sheridan Anderson! Jaybro - right on. Donini - :-). Kingtut - looks like ny locale! Hooblie - the wild things we do.

Loved that raccoon who went up the building in St Paul last week. She's my total heartthrob here.

Sister racoon, your indomitable spirit inspires. In the streets of the city, with hands like mine, you're chased and poisoned, and you overcome. You are wild, gritty and passionate. In the storm drains and crannies unseen, you protest. A bastion in nature's struggle with the hegemony of man. Undaunted by the concrete that smothers grass and trees and flowers - flowers that blossom love - you climb the buildings and squeeze through the cracks. You find the scraps discarded from careless excess and grow strong with shimmering brilliance watching from the shadows as machines and shoes pass by. And with that shining power you capture the essence of every creature yearning to be free and wild - climbing to heights with mice and ants and snails and birds...and with every blade of grass that fills the cracks in the road. Sister racoon in my heart I go with you.

The view from a previously unclimbed peak in Patagonia we did last summer. The background is largely still unexplored.

Enjoyed the wild pictures and TFPUs. So here's another series of pics. It's easier to just give the facebook link, sorry about the extra step, but enjoy.
