I ordered this pack directly from Dana Designs in the summer of 1994 - my last season at YNP. It's been stowed in my closet ever since. This pack is nearly new and made with black ballistic nylon. it's 5,200 cubic inches and will withstand heavy abuse and heavy loads for years; not lightweight. XL - I'm 6'2". The granddaddy of the famous Bomb Pack. I paid $400. Asking $300 for this relic. PM me.

I’ve had my Dana Designs Terraplane since the early 90s and it has been awesome. For those interested in these packs but might not need Risk’s ginormous bag, they are currently being made by Mystery Ranch.

very oddball size, even looks big on you (if that is you) I am 6-1 and fit a medium pack size. Packs are matched to torso size not height. That old stuff was good, but no comparison to the new stuff. That pack sells on ebay for less than 200. Do not do it as an auction, put it up as a buy-it-now. Might get a taker but it could take months.

Thanks Jon, I'll ditch it for whatever, here or on eBay. It is actually the right size for me, as the shoulder straps need to be attached/hung slightly higher than the shoulder to ride right (the "Derryberry" therom). I also use such big packs for light but awkward loads, like firewood.

Sending this top side

:"Big Mountain 65L. Large frame, large waist belt."
"This pack has seen the most use out of any of them,
but is still in great condition"

$105. . . . . {Just ! ! }

A central zipper? for shame! if your a purist, No one's pure

Red, (a plus for me)

65L? (Why not 75?@Least)
What is a 65L pack "best" used for? Long day Ice Climbing & Cragging?
4,going non-stop car to car?(Lone,Peak- Lone Pine_et,al)
A peak-bagging size bag? A 3-day alpine crest/loop size,
It seems to small for...

funny story,
of the more than a dozen packs, between us, the only one
that my wife wants gone is my 80L forest Green Gregory
The Classic, big Mnt back pack
{Heavy, twin stays, '79* (Brown Label)
she is sure that I'll try to fill it and tear something,
trying to lift it.

Edit:

just a guess on the red pack, looking at it;
it might be a one or 2 season week-end warrior type.
The mention of use ?
I would need to see more pictures - wear looks minimal.

& Yes, great points, they are (still) missing any sort of side, outside Ski-Slot/pocket ?!
The weight is a deal breaker for most, some appreciate the weight/durability, over-built qualities of more vintage gear.
But if you are going to have to give up Bar-tacked, Hyperlon, double sided ski-slots & re-enforced, grommet drained pockets,
or only rock climb &
never do more than three days any time out . . .
I swear by the some sort of statement like;
from birth to death
and on as one's eternal resting place,
There is only one sack that, transferred from Pro-Climber bag to Pro-Diaper bag,
Made us stand-out fully prepared Parents. + A great Beach bag/cooler that goes every where:? The Atom Smasher Deluxe, The asking was $70.00 sold in, an hour.

A similar Yates made stubby sold just as fast.

1994-“near new”, haha, got a chuckle out of that. That thing is not only old enough to buy beer, it’s old enough to have finished college and worked for a couple years!
Those packs are cool, although very heavy compared to modern gear. That one is from the days when they made them in Bozeman iirc. I remember when backpackers loved the Terraplane. I took a Dana Designs Glacier to Denali twice, served me well. Good packs for super heavy loads. My buddy had a Bomb pack and I thought it was dumb that it didn’t have ski slots since it was supposed to be a ski pack.

I've missed several Dana Design Alpine packs that have been sold recently with the tags still attached. Someone, somewhere has a ArcFlex Alpine buried in the closet in great condition.

I've got a 92 Terraplane with about 10k horizontal miles on it. It's well.... seasoned. I'm taking it to the antiques roadshow to see what they say.

My Alpine sits in the corner, stuffed with a couple of sleeping bags. Still for sale. I only used it for a couple of backcountry trips up along Kibbie Ridge/Styx pass in 1994. Otherwise, it's been an oversized duffel. Meanwhile, I gained 60 pounds at a desk job.

I have a terraplane X in nearly new condition... Just a bit heavy for me - I'm 6'0 and it fits perfectly.
Not looking to make a pile of money, just wanting to clean out the garage.

Search the back of the closet and under the bed! I'm looking to buy a Dana Design ArcFlex Alpine Bozeman backpack size large/extra large.
