Any recommendation for a knee replacement specialist?
Prefer Ca. or Nv. but open for any location.

Kerlan Jobe. Dr. Neil El'Attrache if you can get him. He does knees and shoulders. Fixed Tom Brady when the consensus was he'd never play again.

I had a bad shoulder injury. Dr. El'Attrache, while viewing the MRI said to his associate "Look, this guy tried to tear his arm off but the skin held it on.." Hyperbole of course, but today that shoulder is stronger than the other.

He's hard to get in with, but he's set a standard there, and many of the Docs there work and train with him.

USC also has a great reputation but I have no experience there.

Dr Raymond Kim at the Steadman clinic in Vail. My wife had her knee done last summer by him and he is a great doctor.

Having been in the medical device/image guided surgery business for 20 years I would recommend finding a good Doctor who utilzes image guidance to get the implant alignment as close to perfect as possible.

What Brassnuts said. Critical to replacement surgery is followup, MUST restore range of motion and strength. Get a good therapist.

Louay Toma,MD in Bay Area. He works in John Muir Health hospitals
(Concord and Walnut Creek). Very good joint replacement specialist
for hips and knees. I worked with him, so can tell based on my own experience. Another good guy in the same place would be Bradley Crow,MD. Good luck!

Thanks, I should have figured that wouldn't be in his wheelhouse.

Dr Eric Heiden, Salt Lake City & Park City. He did my wife's knees with spectacular results.

An excellent rehab clinic and physical therapist are just as essential as the doctor. We also *strongly* recommend a rehab clinic instead of home care for the first two weeks after the 4 days in the hospital. Remember that you will be on continuous motion machines for 16 hrs/day for the first 10 days and you'll be on intense pain killers. You will not be able to go to the bathroom on your own for that first week (at least), either.

I don't think the outcome would have been as successful if we didn't go the rehab clinic route.
