I'll say I don't know what love missed,
But I thought it says He said to love
EVERYONE.
But just hold hands with a Mate,
hug 'n kiss in the sanctuary of the place
hold hands when the cops come
Oh JTree !
It sounds like so much fun!
Out there where you can get broiled in the sun
Wait I've got a fun idea, if pictures are being taken,
Can't ya get That big Puffta of the Wide
the maker Of all fun & A'Smasher bags
To show up in drag?

Interesting post here; Jim Brennan for the win. People DO tend to lose their minds over religion AND politics. Not sayin' these subjects are not important, but I really don't think they are so important that we need to lose our basic humanity when going there.

Time to go have an adventure, fortunately the weekend beckons.

cheers

I think Gnome has hit on the perfect solution, forget the rainbow t-shirts, if you're unable to get the venue changed, everyone should go in drag. Then be sure to be perfectly normal and polite, especially with the church members. And don't forget to give them lots of hugs.

Also, if the school officials give you any sh#t, you will have a case, and then it will be time to call in the ACLU.

Well, they moved the meeting to a district owned high school gym that is the same size as the church gym. Praise Jesus!

Thanks to any and all who emailed...of course some really great non profit legal teams helped out FAST!

Don't be a jerk.

If you want respect, show respect.

There are a lot of people in this world who fight homophobia and praise Jesus. Like my mom.

Don't f*#k with my mom.

You lost me at Alabama, jackweed.

No offense intended to the queers and god luvin lunatics.
When Westboro threatened to come to Truckee for a servicemans funeral, I showed up to block them with a 4x8 sheet and a smile. I love the gays.

Are grown adults seriously worried about converting if exposed to a church?
No, that's not the point, it's just that it is harassment, and indoctrination up with, you should not have to put... According to the constitution.

This is important and relevant to me. I live in a place ( Utah with a predominant Religion, some of the more conservative / cult like followers of which, wield a scary biased power here. To wit, I was once passed over for a teaching job in favor of an unqualified and substantially less experienced member of said Granfalloon!
Especially galling for an atheist such as myself!

It's okay, though, guiding has better hours and more income from cash! Though no benefits ( see injury thread....)

I've given a day to think about the many opinions expressed, and to define my own.

1. First, good on you, for being aware of, and sensitive to the issue. Teachers are among the most trusted and highly thought of in a community, and what they stand up for, says a lot. They can often sway community opinion.

2. Second, there is an aspect of this that I've not seen anyone address:
There are a lot of posts about the the exposure of the teachers to the religious and their proselytizing, but this goes both ways. I would advocate that an effort to educate those religious, with flyers and everything, might have considerably more effect......and in all likelihood, would make them not ever want to rent to the District, again. Who is better at education, you or them?

I think it is actually an opportunity.....

I don't agree with the contrived conflict approach to this. We're all people, we live in the same community, we need to find ways to get along....isn't that the goal of those who support gays? Creating more conflict just sets the sides up in emotional cement, where the goal becomes not understanding and getting along, but winning.

You see what the strategy does at the national level, it's tearing us apart.

Everytime they hold a meeting there, put on a brightly colored rainbow shirt. In fact pass them out to all your teacher friends.

Hey flip flop --- i read that book too. Speaking of books, Did you know, about 7 years ago, they tried to fire a teacher for having his class read excerpts from the Epic Of Gilgamesh out here in Yucca Valley (5 miles from JT)? Because it had TOO MANY GODS in it and not the one they like in it.

You can't make this up folks....
