See Blackthorne.

Shephard as an aging Butch Cassidy in South America. Awesome scenery too.

So, so great.

Everything was good, but I especially loved Blackthorne.

Sad loss.

Paris Texas is a wonderful film.

He was great in 'Voyager' (AKA 'Homo Faber'). One of his very few roles as a leading man.

Sat elbow-to-elbow with him at several different bars in downtown StilH2O BITD...he was a man not afraid to take a drop of liquor & seemed to pursue it seriously, as so many brilliant writer-types have. He was always personable, but just wanted to concentrate on his drinking so never had much to say (to me, anyhow). However, toward closing time, look out bar-betties!

Tons of insight in his writings with a refreshing brevity that will be missed...his 'Yeager' portrayal in The Right Stuff is one for the ages...one American icon portraying another.

Yes.

Ecstasy is means to connect to the unconsciousness. In South America they often use drugs. In North America, shamans more often use various forms of duress (sweat lodges, silent or dark retreats, challenging rites of initiation (physically and / or mentally), etc. Even a good hangover can produce alternative mind states that connect to the creative unconscious. I can say that it happens for me. The trick is to stay aware in these states to what is being presented to you. It’s relatively easy to fall into (and become) the experience. The experience can “dictate” creative forms for one to record, but that does not often allow for any transcendence. One is just simply drunk.

Be well.

In Dubious Battle, filmed in 2016 and released earlier this year.
Mr. Anderson was Shepard's penultimate movie role.

Based on Avery's post up thread, just watched Voyager.
He was great in 'Voyager' (AKA 'Homo Faber'). One of his very few roles as a leading man.
Well worth it! Julie Delpy also very good in this, if not the centerpiece against the complex and semiarid backdrop which is Sam's character.

............................

There's a salutary reference to Sam Shepard in Lou Reed's Doing the Things That We Want to:
The other night, I went to see Sam's play, doin' the things that we want to.
I'll miss them both, Sam and Lou, to be sure.

That picture of Sam Shepard with Patti Smith which zBrown put up is really something!
