A thread has undoubtedly been done before, but it bears repeating: Mike and Susan are some of the best folks you'll ever have the chance to hang out with.

Not to open an invitation on their behalf, but if you have the chance to visit them at their home in Moab, you'll find a rare breed of hospitality, a hot shower, proffers of ice cream (and perhaps other libations), and some of the best conversation you can enjoy anywhere.

I just got back to Denver from there, and I wanted to post this up while my fond memories are still fresh. They are just great folks indeed, and their house is often a magnet for other great folks (like Jaybro and Pamela). The warmth and encouragement in that home are palpable!

Thank you both!

Haven't interacted with Michael, but Susan is at the very top of the "Supertopians I'd like to hang out with."

I'll second that! Wonderfully hospitable and fully capable of carrying on conversations beyond climbing.

three cheers for Mike and Susan, they have wonderful hospitality and are expansively generous.

No matter what we're doing in Moab we always try to drop by and spend some time with them, they will insist if they know you're in the neighborhood!

Long overdue!
They are the real thing, they are the best!
Rescued me when I cut my nose off, and several times since then, they record Doctor Who for me. They have endless bicycle smarts, sailing stories, local knowledge growing 4wd knowledge, geerousto a fault, and more

I agree, they are some of the best people that I have ever met.

Took me in sight unseen and let me shower and stay overnight with them. The only other people on earth who'd do that are the folks that run the Basalt dog pound and the local sheriff. Even fed me several times. Real food. Will always feel a connection to them.

Hi Chongo!!

Oh, Richard, sorry .... I thought for a moment you were Chongo, with your fixed ropes hanging on the wall for three seasons.....

Susan and Mike have always been very kind and generous to me, which is in their nature. They have also been patient and tolerant with me, which is never an easy thing. ;)

Hope to see you guys in the Meadows this spring for some yummy yummy Blue Moon. You too, "Chongo". And your kilt-wearing sidekick.

I'm encouraged by posts like this that supertopo isn't dead and the climbing community, though dispersed, is special.

Thanks for the nice thoughts.
And Jaybro for showing our messy garage!!!!!!!

Moab is a wonderful place of extremes. Extreme fun, people, scenery, weather, dust and dirt. When we got this house we envisioned, and set it up so that our old and new friends that come through the area could have an oasis for when they need a reprieve from the extremes.

We love having folks coming through. Wonderful conversations, sharing and trying new adventures.

Thanks again for the nice thoughts. Michael and I were quite taken by the kind words!

Susan and Michael

Ps: geez Jay, that's the only time I've ever seen Michael flip the bird. I can't recall what you must have said!!! :).

Hard to express in written word how very special Ferretlegger and Susan are. Actually I can't do them justice writing here tonight so I won't even try. I got to know them well at a crux time in both of our lives. We don't connect enough, but they are for me forever friends. Very big hugs and love to you both. lynnie

I'm so glad I dropped by supertopo and can put my 2 cents in. Michael and Susan are such good people. They demonstrate a kind of social consciousness and generosity of spirit that is rare these days. Kind, available, forgiving, funny and supremely smart, they are two of my favorite people on the planet. ❤️

As I recall, my exact words were
"say Hi Pam!"

Upon seeing the photo, she said. " I love them so much!"

Patty and I really enjoyed our time with Mike and Susan. Great people! What little I know of Mike, that is probably as messy as that garage gets. Hope to get together with them again sometime.

I was just wondering about you today Steve. Glad that you are recovering!

Other than meeting at some of the NACHA events and spending time here on the ST I haven't had any chance to hang out with these two fine people but I sure like what they are about based on that.

Great thread Richard.

Mike and Susan, I have yet to meet you in person, but still your generosity benefited my kids and me when we passed through Moab two summers ago. Thank you. I hope someday to get to enjoy sailing stories, and hear about how to build a watch.

Thanks again everyone for such kind words!
Richard...you are so gracious and generous!

Jay...we need to talk....could you have tried harder to get a more flattering picture?????

Trip report later this summer on our new "toy" (the roof top tent) ... as we are headed up to the Arctic Circle via the Dempster Highway to the most northern North America point by land. Trying to keep those bears at bay. We can grab the bear spray as they scale the ladder!

We do love the folks stopping by and we get to adventure with them, or live it vicariously ... as a lot is way beyond our pay grade now. ;).

Susan and Michael.

Edit.
hear about how to build a watch.
. Oh my. I'm sure it can be arranged. ;)

Great shots! The next best thing to being there, although it's still a far cry from being there. I'm envious.
