Getting ready for my armchair years.....

Having schlepped my box of mags around for years, I recently discovered a missing issue of Climbing.

Climbing #12 March/April 1972

Checked with Chessler, no luck. Any ideas?

Thanks all

Wow! Is that your only missing issue? I have a fairly good collection but I think it starts around #20, but I'll check.

Good luck with that John!

I'll piggyback if I may ...

Looking for Mountain, issues #40 & #97. [edit: got them!]

(... also no go with Chessler)

I'll check, Roy

Mountain 107 is all I have after giving many to Michael Chessler long ago.

Still have duplicates in Climbing, R&I and Alpinist

Fun to scroll through the pages for inspiration.

Roy, enjoyed your post from Mountain #1, mine went to Chessler.

possible I have it; will take a look.

Edit: first check no dice; mostly mid-70s issues with one from 1971. Will look a bit more and let you know if it turns up.

While we are waiting for our missing magazines to show up ...
... Maybe we can inspire Outdoor Gear Lab to do an armchair comparison test?

Posted a similar thread a while back.

Here is my wishy list:
Looking for R&I #53, it has an article about Cody Ice. The cover is long forgotten in my memory and non-existent on the internets.

R&I #77 is also of interest to me (frozen Montana stuff).

I'm tagging on as well. I am looking for the climbing magazine from 1976 (publisher unknown) that has the picture of the Camp 4 bulletin board on the back cover with the sign that said:

Will trade entire climbing rack for color TV

I will pay $100 for that copy for nostalgia reasons. PM Ahwahnee Bartender please.

In any event be careful how you transfer physical documents around.

UPS lost collectors items recently.

At least make copies!

Dang...I need to update my list...(had picked up a few from John awhile ago).

What I really need is:

Climbing 7 (May '71), 9 (Sept '71) and 11 (Jan/Feb '72). As well as 284, 316, 318, 320, 323, 325.

Rock and Ice: 215 and 217.

Wanted to double check with the cognoscenti...issue 22/23 of Climbing is the one that's titled, "Winter 73-74"? Monkey o' Steel, can you confirm?

Also, this is a stretch, but, Rock and Ice issue 142...I'm missing the one with Royal Robbins on the cover. Have an extra copy with John Long on the cover.

I'll check my duplicates (have a gob...Summit as well)...

Besides #1 - #10 (as far as I can tell since I'm missing 7 and 9).

I thought 22/23 was the winter 73/74 issue. Thanks for confirmation!

Ha! You're correct. That's what I get for assuming...

The number dropped when they put "Volume 3" on issues #11 and 12, then came back with #37.

I have a huge collection of magazines dating back to the late sixties and early seventies. Climbing, Rock & Ice, Summit, Off Belay, Mountain Gazette, and many others. All of R&I and all Climbing except#1. Boxes and boxes in my store room. What I would really like is for someone to drive up with a truck and haul them off. Free! Come to Sonora and get them. I am hanging on to Ascent and Alpinist but the others are yours for the taking. If you just want specific issues we can work it out, but I would prefer to have them all gone. It has probably been thirty years since I spent time combing through back issues.

I wonder if any of the magazines would ever post a full collection online somewhere like here. I know I would look at it especially the really old stuff. Man the internet makes it hard to see new climbing content, but they can not recreate some of the old stories and pictures.

I have a lot of Climbing and Mountain mags from about 1977 to early 90's.
I keep them in my trailer near Skaha.
I seem to enjoy the older articles even though the photography was so so. Moderm mags have great photos but I am not interested in much of the writing.
Is this just me (or my perspective from a 40 year career), or do others have a similar view?
