original thread = kaput (EdBannister deletion due to Bullwinkle nipple pic?)

that BW shot of the woman + the Wave. It makes me wanna sing! http://www.supertopo.com/climbing/thread.php?topic_id=2918319&msg=2918325#msg2918325

the right kind of sandstone will woo the woman for you as BW found, no doubt. so post it up! wet green, photosynthesizing midwestern quarry walls, the licheny Dakota crag closest home, or, best of all, the lofty temples of ochre with their pure clean summits and laser cut joint-jamming.

Let's see your sandstone! Bonus points for obscurity!

Wonderful. Looking at those pics of Wadi Rum reminds me how much I regret not having a chance to visit when I was there 20 yrs. ago. The area around Petra is similar but not nearly as big or dramatic.

More from my trip to the Wadi Rum a few years ago

On Jebel Burdah, a 5.4 scramble

Just off the summit of Jebel Khazali
The movie Lawrence of Arabia with Peter O'Toole was filmed in the valley down there

Descending off Jebel Burdah, a 5.4 scramble
105 degrees that day

March is a good time for climbing in the Rum
105 degrees F during the day
37 degrees at night
Drinking 10 liters of water daily
No bathing for days

that spot is on the list for sure SLR. any idea who started leaving fixed anchors/using ropes there?

so funny how a foreign sandstone can look like something else to me - that distant gray massif coulda fooled me for limestone.

Great photos folks! Thanks for taking the time to post them up!

Exotic sandstone? Other than the SW, my only other sandstone photo is of my old pal Chris demonstrating Austrian ski instruction rappel technicque at Peshastin Pinnacles WA in 1974.

Other than that, all my other sandstone photos are ruined.

Ed, those are in the vicintiy of The Wave in North Coyote Butte. The third one is actually called the Wave 2. My favorite is the greenish one with the orange stripes. It looks like I used some sort of filter on it, but those are the actual colors in morning light. Too bad it is so hard to get a permit to go there.

I went back and labeled locations, and will continue to do so.

I think there is a near endless number of unclimbed formations in southern Utah and Northern Arizona.

Bryce Canyon is accessed via state route 12, east of Bryce is a place called Kodachrome Basin, wandering south from Kodachrome basin is a dirt road that sometimes is passable with a passenger car, and sometimes is not passable with anything. The BLM lady told me after days of mud creating rain "if you get stuck out there nobody is coming to get you." that is the Cottonwood Canyon Road.
driving southeast road 440 branches off to the east to Grosvenor Arch. Just a pitch high, but i do not think any climb there has ever been reported. The Cottonwood road roughly follows the Paria gulch/river and crosses it at one point before continuing south to 89 halfway between Kanab and Page, AZ. https://stateparks.utah.gov/parks/kodachrome-basin/map/

Kodachrome Basin has many spires, and many rangers, i did not inquire or climb.

Has anyone climbed "Finger Rock?" A spire next to the Colorado River halfway between Lee's Ferry and Glen Canyon Dam?
it always seemed the perfect climber's plum because it looks like it's name.

The brave Cowboys' constant is greatly appreciated
& EdBannister! I poke at you in fun , I hope that you see it that way.
If I need to apologize
I do.
I'll try to resist alluding to the similarities to a stair hand rail.

Your vision, perfect execution ( I think ) leave spectacular
Results.

The things that one misses most when you no longer get to visit the "deserp" is the vistas and the feeling of full immersion that your pictures communicate.

They are transporting!
Thanx !

Then because it is enough to put on the 'must hit list'
And wow ! Just wow
We are meant to explore and find and climb !
The proof is there and TBC, Jaybro, and EdBannister take us there.
WHERE?.
Brings us to the places that will lurk forever in my dreams !
