There were 245 permits to kill issued statewide last year of which 105 were 'successful'.
Maybe there are too many lions because there are too many deer feeding on over-watered
suburban landscaping? I won't stoop to address the issue of too many retards raising alpacas
inadequately fenced at night.

Alpaca are not indigenous to that area. ( said with English accent) Cats are!

Let it be. It's perfectly natural behavior for a predator to kill multiple prey at once. Just because it made a "surplus kill" doesn't mean it needs to be euthanized.

Arm them Alpackers with semi-automatic assault weapons and 10,000 rounds. Peace will gently descend on the neighborhood. The NRA told me so

For one lion to kill 10 large pack animals in one night? Sounds like the lion might be packin' already.

Geez... I bet there's a lot more than one lion doing the work.

Anyone ever had alpaca burgers? They must be delicious.

Donkeys don't run. I don't know if they can't, or if they just don't ever feel like it. So in a fight-or-flight situation, "flight" is low on their option list.

Their legendary stubbornness makes "fight" plan-A. Mountain lions are chickens, when you get right down to it, and aren't looking for a fight, especially with something that will not back down and is a hell of a lot bigger than it is.

And they're loud, too.

I would argue that people reduction is more critical at this point.

I often let them.

Oh sure...first the Lions came for the Alpacas, and I did not speak out—
Because I was not a Alpaca.

Then they came for the Llamas, and I did not speak out—
Because I was not a Llama.

Then they came for the cows, and I did not speak out—
Because I was not a cow.

Then they came for me—as there was no food left, those F***ing Lions had already eaten all the dogs, cats, goats and Guinea Pigs.

Besides, the woman who pulled the permit says she won't kill it now. http://www.dailynews.com/environment-and-nature/20161201/rancher-says-she-will-not-kill-mountain-lion

Smart lady quoted:
"“The point was never to kill the animal,” said Victoria Vaughn-Perling during a late morning news conference at her Malibu hills ranch home, with a backdrop of more than a dozen alpaca spared by the cat” but to call attention to the issue and “try to get it relocated.” “I’m not looking for revenge for my alpaca,” she added. Vaughn-Perling, who uses the fur of the alpaca to make scarves, lost 10 of her alpaca on her property in a mountain lion attack Saturday — the fourth such attack on the animals since November of last year, she said."...

She's a better person than I. I'd be looking for sweet sweet revenge for sure! That f*#ker would be dead faster than any of you Californians could say "double shot skim soy latte" if that was Couchmasters livestock being repeatedly ravaged...

Go up against a lion without one of your firearms and see who is the fittest. It's not an even playing field but, no worries....other life forms will occupy the earth long after we are gone.

Yet Ruth Gomez, who raised alpacas at her eight-acre Malibu ranch for nearly two decades before selling her last one this week, said she never had lions invade. To ward off predators, she used larger llamas as guardians, along with a pack of loud, powerful dogs and motion-sensing lights.

“We know that the cougars like to hunt in stealth, so we made it noisy and bright,” Gomez, 73, said. “We would never kill a cougar. That’s stupid.”

Dogs do a pretty good job. Some dogs. Lions don't want problems they just want to live their lives & be left alone. If they see two large dogs that work together they are going somewhere else.

Donkeys are bad a##.

Slightly off topic. While I support all the wolves, and mountain lions, there is a problem in the Santa Monicas. The lions are in a relatively confined area. That's why P-22 left. There is a serious problem of inbreeding.
The NPS says they can't move the lions. I don't buy that. There is talk of building an animal bridge over the 101 near Liberty Canyon. So what's the difference if the lions use the bridge and disperse on their own, or if the NPS moves them?

Moving large animals almost always turns out bad. That's why they have outlawed it in most places.

Tied up dogs aren't able to work together. How could you even equate the two.
Dogs that protect need to be free to do there work, like the Great Pyrenees above.

Why don't they make the wildlife bridge on the 101 wide enough for a lion trap? Problem solved people.

What would make more sense to me is if we let wild land fuels build up for fifty more years.

Cats can run from the firestorm, homes can't.

Meanwhile, over the past fifty years, urban planners will have made urban centers desirable for families, with open spaces and sh#t.

Then, after the firestorms, people will gradually migrate back to the city centers, leaving the cats with more space.

There, two solutions. You're welcome.

The Basque sheepherders on the eastside use donkeys..Donkeys also keep ravens away ...My neighbor had a great pyrhenee to protect his llama herd...Never lost any llamas...Recently a big cat mauled the neighbors dog then killed a llama.. A neighbor got a permit and shot the cat...Next night the other llama got whacked...Neighbor got another permit and bagged the 2nd lion...
